You're way, way off target here. Passarella has only been there for 18 months whereas the club's debt comes from the Aguilar era. He didn't steal anything because there was nothing left to steal in the first place.

//Edit - Funes Mori was horrible and has been horrible for over a year, doubt any respectable team will take him now without some significant improvement.

Funes Mori- Yeah exactly I can see Benfica coming back in if I'm honest but most European teams are looking at Lamela mainly Napoli/Arsenal I'm hearing.

For his part, Passarella has said he will speak next week about the truly guilty men who plunged River into this terrible crisis - the club's previous regime.I doubt anyone will want to hear his explanation in the short term since they are relegated. There will be a requiem for River's lost days played against a backdrop of violence in Buenos Aires, there is alot of backlash from the fans at Passarella, I mean in the past month they have vandalised a statue/plaque/anything with his name on it in River Plate he WAS a club legend but no more, he has said he will speak out next week and basically blame the people who were there before him but alot of ex players/team mates of his have said and been quoted tonight as saying people who voted him for president have been proved profoundly wrong tonight.

He is under serious pressure to resign despite SOME problems not being entirely his fault.

"This is a punishment for those who voted for Passarella (as president)," said a bitter Norberto Alonso last week. Alonso is not just a River legend but a former River team-mate of Passarella's who was in Passarella's World Cup winning squad in 1978.

The thing with Passarella is the recency factor - they blame him because he's the current president, just like they blame the current batch of players and manager, even if they had the best season in the past 3 years. It's stupid and irrational, really, but so is suffering for football and we've all had our bits of suffering for our clubs.

On the other subject, Lanzini is also being scouted, apparently by an unnamed Italian club, presumed to be Napoli, who have shown interest in the past. However he hasn't played in the last few matches and was played out of position with bad results throughout the season. Funes Mori was the major let-down, though, starting well last year but performing awfully throughout the season.

My personal opinion is the amount of politics in Argentinian football is huge and probably surprised Passarella which is why he has had so many 'outspoken' remarks about the AFA president etc, I mean having to deal with your hooligan fans and paying them not to do stupid things at matches? Half of Rivers budget probably went on policing home games lol.

Lamela fell away like Mori but I truly believe it was because the amount of pressure on them and they just could not carry a team for the 40+ games a season required of them (unfairly in my opinion to ask 2 young kids with unbelievable talent too literally do EVERYTHING for a team for the entirety of the season is always going to end up badly).

Lanzini is very interesting because he hasn't put out any statement or anything saying he will stay/go regarding rivers situation (Basically his agent has been quiet) unlike Funes Mori who in my opinion sulked for half the season when the club wouldn't sell him to Benfica in January (He publicly spoke out against not the manager but the president Passarella and said he was 'furious' that he wouldn't let him move to Benfica) Pretty hard to come back from that sort of line especially when your 19 and in a struggling team it just makes you look a bit arrogant and disloyal.

Funes Mori I can see in Portugal and Lamela could end up in Italy/England/Porto, River fans will have to accept the sales and raise the cash then hopefully reinvest in rebuilding a team because I am **** sure with their youth system more youngsters are in the pipeline but they need to spend any cash gained on buying defenders/GK/Strikers.
I would have really liked to have seen them go in for Abreu in Brazil and activate his 1 million pound release clause he would have definitely added to that team and scored them crucial goals I have no doubt.

Line from Buenos Aires Herald:
'The only way for me to leave River is if I'm dead,' Pasarella - BuenosAiresHerald.com
I guess he read our argument and decided against resigning, as it says there is alot of pressure right now from fans and club officials for him to step down but unless he goes out in a 'body bag' thats not happening apparently.

(From what I hear about the River ultra fan groups a body bag shouldn't be too big a hurdle for them)

The thing with Funes Mori is that he had a clause in his contract in which his family got ~30% of any transfers, so Passarella was waiting for the U-20 championships to end to try and sell him for more cash (8m was the reported offer). Unfortunately for River, Benfica refused to be held for ransom and broke off negotiations.

That statement was from right after the match, and after checking out some River forums I have to say Passarella shouldn't push it with his 'body bag' comments. You never know if a ******'s waiting for you round the corner.

Passarella is the chairman, not the manager. You can't just sack him :P

Ya casi no juego FM pero en el foro me cago de risa, además que está bueno que los demás conozcan algo de nuestro 'fulbo'. El quilombo no, pero bueno, es lo que hay...

If I were a Belgrano fan, I'd remove my colors just to make it home safe...

Actually, River fans were mad at other River fans, the police, club authorities and players rather than the opposition, and up to some extent, they were right.

this translates in english to
hardly play FM but I **** on the forum of laughter, which is also good that others know something of our 'Fulbe '. The quilombo not, but hey, is there
...

lolwut ;)

About River's relegation, here's one thing I can clearly see in Brazil. The relegation is, no doubts, a matter of joke forever(or until your rivals are relegated too), but for the club, it may prove to be the best moment for a revolution. I believe Athe~ is an Independiente fan, so he never faced the second division, and most of the European people would never imagine their team in the second division. Here, no país do futebol, 12 from the 17 teams who have already won the Brasileirão played the second division. Some, like the defending champs Fluminense, even played the 3rd tier of national football. The second division is a sure win(unless you're really, really struggling), so it's a year to concentrate in the political and financial aspects of the club. Anyway, I hope River to come back, and for Boca Jrs to be relegated. This way, the Libertadores will be easierXD
Like we say in Brazil, "Libertadores sem Boca e River já é meio caminho andado" (Libertadores without Boca and River is halfway done). Meanwhile, River's fans will have to dream, like Peter Crouch:

Eu não fala português - eso es todo lo que se decir en portugués la verdad :P. Igual entiendo el portugués escrito y a veces hablado también.

Pero volviendo al English... No, I'm no Independiente fan. I'm a fan of Olimpo, a small-ish team, we've spent plenty of time in the lower leagues, you can take my word on that one. And we'll probably spend some more in the future :P. We managed to pull a 4th place finish (A historical highest) in the Clausura and our victory in the last day of the season sent River to the relegation play-offs, so not only do I feel the pain of River fans, but also the joy of Belgrano fans (And Boca fans of course, but for a different reason).

Wow, I believe i've FAILed then<) I do feel the pain of River. Actually, Palmeiras' relegation match was a 7-2 against Sport, and Saint Marcos"tomou um frango"(took a chicken, literally. That's what we say here when the keeper fails. Marcos tried to kick the ball, and is passed him, Robinson style) that only the Club World Cup miss against Man Utd was worse. That would be like Bolton beating Liverpool 7-2. But, still using Liverpool as an example: When you walk through a storm; hold your head up high.
