Rochdale - Promotion is not enough...

The 2009/2010 season will never be forgotten. It was this season that the 40 year wait ended. Until last season, Rochdale played 36 consecutive seasons in the Football League's bottom division from 1974 to 2010, the longest time any team has been in the bottom division of the League.

In 2010/2011, the Dale get a taste of League One play. It has been assumed that the managing duo of Keith Hill and David Filcroft would remain to continue what they started after promotion, but chairman Chris Dunphy had other ideas.

Today July 7th, Rochdale announced the resignation of both Hill and Filcroft and introduced Adonis Pimp as the new manager of Rochdale. Adonis Pimp may be known to some after a journeyman semi-pro career, and now at the age of 34 has been given the opportunity to see Rochdale on.

In related news, fitness coach Guy Proctor, physios Andy Thorpe and John Lucas, and scout John Forrest were let go by the club. The board said briefly in a statement that staff would be addded shortly after Adonis Pimp meets the media tomorrow.

Adonis Pimp quick to bring in new faces...

July 9th, 2010 - Rochdale

Dean Greygoose was hired as Asst Manager for the 10/11 season. At $650/wk, A. Pimp said he plans to utilize Greygoose's man mangement skills right away . The hiring didnt stop there as Pimp brought in John Murtough to coach through the 11/12 season. Murtough brings a solid resume adept at quite a bit went it comes to coaching. Earning $850/wk, Murtough will be relied upon heavily much like a second assistant and will see to the reserves squad.

Summer 2010

August 1st, 2010

The summer flew by with a rather succesful schedule of friendlies. After settling in as new manager, Adonis Pimp quickly installed a high workload for training and match prep with and emphasis on team blend. The summer match schedule was as follows:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
@ Clyde 3-1 win.

Fulham 0-2 loss. (2310 fans watched thier team play very well, despite losing)

@ Southport 2-0 win.

Celtic 2-1 win. (8900 fans watched as Jack Redshaw scored the match winner as Rochdale shocked Celtic)

@ Rossendale 3-0 win.

Stoke City 2-0 win. (3314 fans watched Rochdale stifle Stoke to finish of the summer matches)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Summer Transfers:

Out:

GK - Ryan Jones - PT GK was released.
GK - Josh Lillis (Loan from Scunthorpe) - Loan terminated.
MC - Andrew Tutte (Loan from Man City) - Loan terminated.

In:

DC - Josh Thompson (Loan from Celtic) - Season long loan.
DC - Craig Dawson (Loan from West Brom) - Season long loan.

GK - Frank Fielding (Loan from Blackburn) - A familiar face from the 09/10 promotion campaign was brought back in on a season long loan. Fielding helped the Dale to 8 wins while on loan there in '09 and was excited to rejoin his former mates once again. Fielding, who has been linked to Fabio Capello for a England squad call-up, will provide a solid GK option for Rochdale in their attempt to remain in League 1.

2010/2011 Season begins...

First year in League 1 since 1974? What could the expectations be? Surely staying there is want, but what is the ceiling for this Rochdale club that excited so many with thier promotion last spring? The Adonis Pimp spoke briefly with us about the desire to not only stay up, but increase the stature of Rochdale. Not only would he like to see attendance increase and expenses remain in line, but turn some heads while doing it. If we can stay up, develop kids and continue on in what begun last year, I think that we can surprise a team or two.

The Adonis Pimp outlined a brief plan with us.

1) Grow revenue while keeping expenses in line.
2) Advance in competition play, be it FA Cup or Johnston Trophy, past the 1st round.
3) Properly evaluate staff and staff needs going forward.
4) Evaluate talent and with the close help of scout team, begin to think towards 2012.
5) Install an attractive version of the 4-4-2. Strong defensive line, with offesive-minded wing play.

With such a tight budget, Adonis Pimp will be tested more than most League 1 squads. Confident and quietly, the season begins...

2010/11 Season - 1st Half Recap

The season began on the heels of a successful summer as Rochdale won their opener on the road at Brentford 2-1. The remainder of the month saw them draw their next league games 2-2 at home vs. Bristol.

September started out slow with 2 home losses and injuries to first team GK Frank Fielding, DC Craig Dawson and DC Josh Thompson. The squad rebounded a bit to finish off the month with 2 wins and a draw and found themselves in an early mid-table position going into October. Short term loans were arranged with GK Neil Etheridge (Fulham), MC Danny Joyce (Reading) and MC Conor Henderson (Arsenal) to help with injuries and depth. The club has been enjoying and early bump in attendance over the previous season with an average crowd of 4100 compared to 3200 a year ago.

The Dale hit the skids in October, however, they lost 6 straight games including all 5 in league play and fell to 20th position to close out the month. Goals dried up and injuries to Fielding, and DC’s Dawson and Thompson seemed to take their toll as the squad began to concede goals far too often during this run of poor form. A few in the media began to question the 4-4-2 tactic being employed by Adonis Pimp, but the manager made it clear no changes to the philosophy would be made.

November was a mixed bag as Rochdale continued their slump in League 1 play losing 3 of 4 matches. They did draw against Plymouth at home which proved to be a moral boost on their way to 2 FA Cup wins (Accrington 3-2, Round 1 and Exeter 4-2 in Round 2). A true test would be Milwall, of the Championship League , in the 3rd round match at home on Jan 8, 2011.
