I will reiterate my response from a little while ago: Messi did score a header and played well but not amazing, nor did he scare the United defence. Eto's pace and the brilliance of Xavi that day cost united. Nothing else. The star was Xavi, Messi was simply the half time show.
First of all i take it you mean the stat which showed Ronaldo had a better goal to games ratio for the national team...? Ronaldo plays in a weaker national team, and scores on a more regular basis.
I dont hate Messi, Barcelona granted i ******* hate, But Messi? No.
Well, Messi needs to come to England to prove he can do it... before you anyone can say, he will, He needs to prove it.
Andy very nicely provided a list of the 20 greatest players from google.. Well all of them bar a select few had played in Multiple top world leagues... Whilst the others had amazing international records.. Now Messi has not done/ got either of these things, So to be classed as the best, surely he has to do what the best does... As the very greatest can do things outside there confort zone, Whilst Messi is in a team built around him.
First of all, you did say you hated Messi, I can't find the post because it was deleted. I asked you why out of curiosity, and you said because he was a dwarf ****, and alcaraz liked the post. I have a good memory.
Second, he was very good in the final against ManU. He was a huge distraction to the defense, allowing other players to break through, and eventually got the goal. Was he Barca's best player that day? No. But that's the difference between him and Ronaldo. Messi is a team player and doesn't have to be the best player to make a great contribution. He can let the greats around him do well when they're having a good day. He doesn't have to have a spectacular day for his team to do well. Ronaldo? If he is not having a good game, the team suffers a lot.
Saying Barca is built around Messi is laughable, Messi is built to fit into Barca, and they were great with that system before him. Ronaldo? His teams are built around him and to get him goals. ManU and RM both played to get him as many shots as possible. If you look at goal to shot ratio, I'm sure Messi is better. When Ronaldo left ManU, all the ManU fans started talking about how overrated he was and that the whole team was built around him, that Rooney and Tevez and Giggs and company all worked hard to get him the ball as much as possible so he could shoot as much as possible and sometimes score.
As far as the NT goes, again, you don't watch Argentina, but they have been absolutely **** for about 3 years now, since Messi got really good. Every Argentine player underperforms for the NT. Also, Messi is more of a distributor for the Argentine NT, and he is surrounded by other goal-scoring options. He is responsible in the build-up for almost all of their goals. Everyone in Argentina knows how important he is to the national team, even if they can't fit him in well and the whole team plays like ****. Ronaldo is the one good goal-scorer for his team and is the focal point for his team, that's why he takes all of the shots and scores the goals.
He has done all that in his confort zone Alex...The true Greats do all that at more then one club, to show they can play in different league, climates and circumstnces.
Oh for Christ's sake I can't believe I'm arguing with a ManU fan about this...you seriously don't think Scholes was a true Great? He was a ******* legend, Zidane said he was the best CM of this generation...he didn't have to play in another league to prove ****. Neither did Pele. What a terrible argument.
Best team.. Yes
Best League? Nope. He is playing in a 2 horse leaague, where you know Barcelona and Madrid will be the top 2, bar some sort of Crisis. In My opinion he needs to and should test himself in a new situation/ league to be classed as a true great of world football.
Only 13 year old EPL fanboys think La Liga is ****. The reason Barca and Real Madrid run away with it the past two seasons is that they are historic teams. The Prem is also a two-horse league. It used to be ManU and Arsenal, then Arsenal had to start turning a serious profit and Chelsea came into the picture, so it became ManU and Chelsea. This season Chelsea is finally running into the problems of a team built by a billionaire owner, so it's a one-horse race. Arsenal could have won it but losing Van Persie for a while and Vermaelen for the whole season cost them the title (imagine if Vidic missed this season). They might make a semi-serious title challenge, but it's definitely a one-horse race this season, and ManU really isn't all that good this year. Anyway, the strength of a league is determined by the majority of the teams in it, and you can't seriously argue there's much of a different between the 6-20 of Italy, England, or Spain. And Germany's lower and mid tier teams are probably better than those of any of those three leagues.
Messi and Ronaldo both play week in and week out against quality opposition. They're the best two players in the world, and they don't need to move to Italy or another league or even play well for their national team (depending on the circumstances). I mean look at how many English players have underperformed for the English NT...do I think Gerrard is any worse for not playing well for England? No.
