Anyone who says Ronaldo is better has a biased opinion. I reckon I am pretty neutral on this one, and for me Messi > Ronaldo.

Why do we have to have bias because we think Ronaldo is better. It's not bias, it's opinion.

I have nothing against Messi, I just prefer Ronaldo to Messi and think he's better. Opinion, not bias.

Defensive play involves tracking fullbacks, nullifying your flank, and winning the ball back. Ronaldo does none of these things. If you have an attacking fullback against Ronaldo, it's pretty much a given that he can go forward whenever he likes.

And before you say Messi doesn't do this either, think about it. Because that just isn't true.

A full back goes forward. Ronaldo does what he is told and stays up there. Madrid win the ball... Oh wait full back is caught up field, Ball goes to Ronaldo, free space counter attack is on... This is Mourinho, not even Ronaldo would play if he didnt do what he was told.

Pele scored in 3 world cups... And won 3, has messi.. Thought not. Dont even try to compare Pele and this kid.

I dont think it is the best league in the world, it is boring and predictable, it has 2 class teams and that is it. The league isnt a physical one, it is tailor made for attacking players.

You just listed a man who won 3 world cup. well played CJ.

no, i said i hated Barcelona. Madristra said he hated Messi as he was an ugly dwarf ****. i said all that is true, but i never said i didnt like him.

To the rest of your post... I cba to read that much, jeez give us a break.

Pele was on historically great Brazilian national teams. If he played for a terrible NT he hasn't won any world cups. Messi has been good for about 2 or 3 years for Christ's sake...you expect him to have one a World Cup already? Argentina's national team is awful right now and had no shot at doing well in the World Cup. They seem to be turning things around with Baptista at the helm but no one will beat Brazil next World Cup (and if a team can, the refs won't allow it).

As for La Liga being the best in the world, no one is claiming it is, but it's one of the big 4, which are all very close, so he's proven himself in arguably the top league in the world, if not, one of the very best. End of.

My post had 7 paragraphs and two of them were two sentences long, so basically 5 paragraphs. How do you do in school?

Edit: And Messi was very good in the final of '09, not Barca's best player, but one of the parts of a well-oiled machine that was always great. He doesn't have to take 20 shots to have a great game. He was more quiet than usual, and that's because of how well the team as a whole was playing. Unlike Ronaldo. Another reason Messi is better: team play has to be valued as well.

You would get a load of Media hyped up Nonsense, I thought better of you then to listen to pundits/ newspapers and talk shows, Anyone who closely watched that game( I watched the re-run 6 or 7 times) Would see Messi was nothing special in that game, Off course he played well but not amazing. His team won 2-0 and you score, You always look better. Xavi was the king that day.

Right, but at very least my argument actually has some backers outside of this site, unlike you who without any grounds seem to claim that Messi was average in the biggest game of his career.

If you think Messi was nothing special in that game, you need your eyes tested. Yes, Xavi was the best player on the park, but Messi was sublime as well.

Ronaldo did all that in the past. It was in the business end of 2007-08 when he stopped all that as he was told to play more as a striker.

Before that he tracked back, defended set pieces, even started countless counter attacks from our penalty area.

He won and scred lots of goals in 3 world cups.. Until messi does something similar at internationall he cant be considered a true great.

I am sorry, someone said Messi is in best team and best league... Look back.

I did very well in school thanks, I am just tired/ slightly hung over to be arsed to read your essay..

You just listed a man who won 3 world cup. well played CJ.

He just listed a player who played in the best international team of all time. In a team built around him with world class players. The same ridiculous argument being used for Messi and Barca.

Internationally:

Messi - Appearances: 54
Goals/assists - 26
Goal/assist every 2.07 games

Ronaldo - Appearances - 80
Goals/assists - 29
Goal/assist every 2.76 games

And Argentina are 5th in the World Rankings, Portugal are 8th. But as DMF has reminded us recently, Portugal tanked Spain 4-0 so they can't be that bad.

My Opinion has plenty of backers off this site, Just cause i dont think everything i read in a tabliod/ bbc/ bullshit new article.

As i said, I watched it many times., Messi was nothing special. you clearly got caught up in the messi hype on the night and was listening to Andy Townsend a bit to much.

Argentina also tanked Spain 4-1 before that. They can't be as bad as people are saying they are either surely?

They then beat us 2-1 in the last international break. But of course, their international team is awful.

Should we start comparing the greatest player of all time with this Kid then alex..?

I'm not disputing that, there is very little difference between the two nations. Nothing being made of the above stats I see though?

NO ONE is comparing the best player of all time to Messi. I'm just stating why this argument is flawed.

Why would I compare the best player of all time to Messi? He is the best player RIGHT NOW, not ever.

And why do you keep referring to him as 'this kid'?! He's 23 ffs, Ronaldo is 2 1/2 years older than him.

Okay..

Ronaldo then has a greater international record for a less superior side than Messi..

Well. The argument remain. Pele did it on 2 stages,, Messi has clearly not... FACT.

He is some kid....

Okay..

So despite the evidence, you insist that he has a better international record?

Less superior side? Behaveeee. You were waxing lyrical about Portugal in the FIFA world rankings thread, as evidenced here.

As stated, his Brazil side were probably the best international side that the world has ever known. Argentina are far from that. You expect Messi to win a world cup single handedly? How did Ronaldo do in the 2010 World Cup btw?

Alex i see your little stat decides to show assists this time as well as Goals...

Well Messi lines up beside Aguero and tevez, Whilst ronaldo lines up beside Amelida and Nani... Difference in class me thinks.../ How about you.

And Messi's Barcelona side has be called and labelled the greatest side of all time...? Ronaldo has scored in 2 WC and 2 EC... Not a bad feat.

He's better on the international stage that Lionel Messi.

The team is excellent, but we're not as good as Argentina, Germany, Brazil, Spain, Holland. I always say we're better than England. We are. Don't understand why England are above us in the World Rankings constantly.

All competition last 4 seasons.

Messi

2007-09 Apps: 40 Goals: 16 Assists: 13
2008–09 Apps: 51 Goals: 38 Assists: 18
2009-10 Apps: 53 Goals: 47 Assists: 11
2010 -11 (current) Apps: 36 Goals: 41 Assists: 20

Ronaldo

2007- 08 Apps: 49 Goals: 42 Assists: 8
2008–09 Apps: 53 Goals: 26 Assists: 9
2009-10 Apps: 35 Goals: 33 Assists: 7
2010-11 (current) Apps: 37 Goals: 34 Assists: 7

He played well against Ivory Coast in a 0-0 draw. He scored in a 7-0 romp against North Korea. Didn't do much vs Brazil in a 0-0 draw. Did alright against Spain when we lost 1-0.

What about Messi?

Now you know thats a lie, We have PHIL NEVILLE and Had Heskey.

That's because the NT is playing better under Batista. We'll see if this continues. He's certainly an improvement from Basile and Maradona. If you'd watched Argentina play over the past few years, you would not think they were spectacular. They've had some really, really embarassing games. One I watched live was the first of the qualification for the 2010 World Cup. In River Plate's stadium against Ecuador, and it took a last second goal to salvage a draw. Messi didn't do much and Riquelme's awful performance dragged the entire team down. There was also 6-1 against Bolivia. This team has been pretty bad as a whole over the past few years.

Okay..

Ronaldo then has a greater international record for a less superior side than Messi..

How is Ronaldo's international record better than Messi's? Messi is more of a distributor for the NT and he STILL scores more goals.

The arguments you guys are using are terrible...I think there's hardly any difference between the two (I slightly prefer Messi) but you're making me argue for him.

Should we start comparing the greatest player of all time with this Kid then alex..?

No one is comparing him to Pele, people were just responding to your ludicrous claim that you can't be a true great without proving yourself in more than one league.
