No one is comparing him to Pele, people were just responding to your ludicrous claim that you can't be a true great without proving yourself in more than one league.

\i think people need to realise that football has moved on from the ****** 60s... All the Modern greats have played in more then one league.

Alex i see your little stat decides to show assists this time as well as Goals...

Well Messi lines up beside Aguero and tevez, Whilst ronaldo lines up beside Amelida and Nani... Difference in class me thinks.../ How about you.

And Messi's Barcelona side has be called and labelled the greatest side of all time...? Ronaldo has scored in 2 WC and 2 EC... Not a bad feat.

My little stat shows assists this time because I could be arsed to look for them. Yes there is a difference in class, but there isn't a huge difference considering as stated above, Argentina are 5th and Portugal are 8th in the world rankings.

In Messi's first World Cup in '06, he was injured for the last two months of the season, he was never going to shine.

Copa America '07 - He scored.
WC10 - Granted he didn't score, but he was MOTM against Greece so it's not like he is poor at international level.

He's better on the international stage that Lionel Messi.

Hows he better? You can't just reel off a statement like that without elaborating.

The Fifa world rankings...? Is that this ranking system constantly slated and blasted..?

So he is yet to score in a major tournament..? just want t clear that up. Whilst crissy has scored in 4..?

One MOM performance and greece... i would sing and dance about that.

Scored in 2 World Cups and 2 European Championships. Messi hasn't.

Curtis, you talk about the managers like Portugal have had an excellent one for the last 3 years. We had Carlos Queiroz who has failed everywhere he's been as a manager. The guy is an assistant manager, and should stay away from managing clubs.

He scored in the copa america, yet you consider the Euro Championships to be a major tournament and yet the South American equivalent isn't?

Bullshit.

DMF said Ronaldo played well in a couple of games, I stated that Messi played well enough to get Man of the Match.

Again it's ok for CR to play well without scoring but not Messi? ******* ****

How many goals did Messi score in Champions league semi finals?

(Messi is slightly better than Ronaldo, just some stat in favor of Ronaldo)

I never said that. I said Ronaldo scored (hence why I underlined and bolded it and nothing else).

He played well against Ivory Coast in a 0-0 draw. He scored in a 7-0 romp against North Korea. Didn't do much vs Brazil in a 0-0 draw. Did alright against Spain when we lost 1-0.

What about Messi?

Oh right, yeah ^^^

On the first part, i m going to hold my hands up and say i miss read it, and thought you put he didnt score at the copa america... My Bad...!!!!!

Ronaldo scored in that tournament, Incase you missed it or decided to ignore it. Ronaldo also had a very good world cup in 2006.. You know WINK WINK. :p

Ronaldo did score.

That is what I was saying I hadn't said..........

You asked how he did in 2010, He gave you an assessment... What more do you want. He played well. He scored, didnt do much and then played alright, You got a game by game assessment. some people are never happy.

And yet when i say Messi got MOTM you make a mockery? Good one.

I'm done.

Yet Ronaldo WC 2010 was classed as a failure.... So why shouldnt Messi when he did less in more games....

And on that game. he is what BB had to say about it

"Lionel Messi, skippering his side in the absence of the rested Javier Mascherano, had a frustrating evening as he received close attention from his opponents but he almost struck a second after a jinking run ended with a thunderous strike that crashed against the post."

hardly sounds a world beaters performance

I wouldn't say he played 'very' well against Ivory Coast, and in the North Korea game, he got one goal against a team that had how many professional football players?

Messi would have scored several if it wasn't for great goalkeeping, especially the Nigerian keeper. And again, Messi was the enganche for Argentina during the World Cup, NOT a forward. He was receiving the ball very deep and his job was to be a distributor not a goal scorer. He was involved in all of Argentina's goals and the engine of their attack. I don't take anyone seriously that thinks he was **** in the World Cup.

Ronaldo lines up between Almeida and Nani so he is the first goal-scoring option. Messi plays deeper and is more of a distributor, so he doesn't take nearly as many shots as Ronaldo or score as many goals. But he wants to help the team play well, other than just win accolades for himself. Look at how ****** Ronaldo got when Nani messed up his goal...Messi would never do that.

Ronaldo also played for a ManU side that many think was historic. His Real team is also ridiculously stacked with talent.

\i think people need to realise that football has moved on from the ****** 60s... All the Modern greats have played in more then one league.

OK, so Scholes and Maldini aren't Modern greats? Jesus. Also, the interntional system was way different in the 60s, and if you were good for club you were probably good for country. Things are much different these days.

For Christ's sake Messi was Argentina's best player that tournament...as we've stated over and over again, he was Argentina's enganche and playing very deep, so he wasn't going to be a goal scorer. He would have been if it wasn't for some amazing keeping. But he was the engine for the team's attack and involved in all of the goals. He played well and that's how the team got 4 victories over solid teams that match up well against Argentina despite having a completely inexperienced coach.

You put something in quotations that wasn't written. I didn't say he played 'very' well, I just said he played well.

Messi would have scored if the goalkeeper hadn't stopped him. That's a goalkeepers job. Ronaldo would have scored if the goalkeepers hadn't saved his shots too.. Ivory Coast he smashed one off the post from about 40 yards. If the post had been a foot more to the left he would have scored..

If's and but's mean nothing. Ronaldo scored, Messi didn't.

And we keep saying, that's not the only indicator of how well a player played in the World Cup. Messi wasn't in the position to be a goal scoring threat for his team...why do you expect him to have scored? He was playing way too deep and was in a distributing role. He was the engine of the team's attack and did what was asked of him. I'm sure we could find plenty of bad players this cup who scored goals...it's just a really stupid, oversimplified way to argue about this.

Because people are pointing to stats about why Messi is better than Ronaldo so I pulled out a stat where he has scored in 4 major international tournaments - including a WC where his team weren't amazing, whereas Messi who's Argentina team had one of the strongest squads in the tournament and he didn't score.

Messi has played in one major international tournament in his life. He played deep in the midfield, and despite Maradona's "coaching," drove his team past four teams that match up well against Argentina. Was involved in the creation of all of the team's goals, and could have had a few if it wasn't for amazing goal-keeping. He had a good tournament and was his team's best player.

And it's been the Ronaldo crowd that has been bringing up the international arena. Scott was the one that claimed that Ronaldo scores more on the international stage. When Alex showed stats that he didn't, Scott said "well he has worse players on his team" meaning I guess Messi is supposed to score twice as much as Ronaldo to prove himself. We're not trying to use stats to prove that Messi is better, since stats are kind of useless in this sport (it's not baseball we're talking about here), we're just refuting claims that Ronaldo's stats are better.

Edit: my 500th post. Too bad.

Ronaldo scores more goals. Alex's stats have assists incorporated into it, which is why Messi's stats seem greater. But as you said on a previous post, Ronaldo's main aim for the national team is to score goals, which he does.
