Out of the blue this error message appeared and ruined my day. I have no idea what caused it and I racked my mind senseless thinking of possible explanations. I spent an age trying to fix it. First I tried loading the backup files, but even they would not save. After that I loaded up another game - a completely different save altogether - but the same problem occurred. Then I started messing about with the Steam settings. No luck with that. Then I tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling. That's sorted things out for me in the past. Even that did not fix it. I went back into my save game, saying goodbye to the team I had created. I had one last look at the save game option. Then I noticed the tabs at the top - 'local' and 'cloud'. Mine was set to local. I switched it to 'cloud' and what do you know, the game saved. Now I feel like an idiot. I thought I'd take one for the team and post this little tip in case anyone else gets stuck like me!
