Despite this being his first managerial job, Boerrig brings a wealth of both playing and coaching experience but will have a lot to do to satisfy the well-supported German club. We'll speak with die Konigsblauen coach soon.
[ Interview Transcript ]
SE - Steffan Eidburg of the German Football Post
JB - Jan Boerrig
SE - Welcome Jan, I am pleased to be speaking with you today. Let's get right to it, why have you chosen Schalke to be your first foray into football management ?
JB - For me, Schalke was an easy decision. They have a squad with champion potential, a large and passionate fan-base, and a solid foundation on which I can build a platform for greatness.
SE - Interesting, you must be confident of your abilities. What sets you apart as a manager ?
JB - My philosophy. As a Dutchman I thrive under an attacking, total football philosophy which I can install into my players. This is the right way to play and the foundation for success. I believe that my players will trust me and each other. That is essential.
SE - You seem to have a very constructive plan. Will the aspect and dynamic nature of modern football deter the players from this very steady and thorough idealogy?
JB - No, I may seem stubborn but players can identify with both me and this philosophy. The players will let this idea consume them. They will be champions if this is maintained.
SE - Can you really take down Bayern and Dortmund, who have dominated German football for a number of years now?
JB - Why do you think I'm sitting in front of you, answering these questions ?
