A Glance At Schalke

"Fußballclub Gelsenkirchen-Schalke 04 is commonly known as FC Schalke 04or simply abbreviated as S04 is a professional German association-football club and multi-sports club originally from the Schalke district of Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia. Schalke has long been one of the most popular professional football teams and multi-sports club in Germany, even though major successes have been rare since the club's heyday in the 1930s and early 1940s. Schalke play in the Bundesliga, the top tier of the German football league system. The elite professionalism in association football team as of August 2014 is the biggest part of a large multi-sports club with 129,672 members (as of March 2014) making it the second-largest sports club in Germany and the third-largest sports club in the world in terms of membership, pursuing the world’s second and first on this measure, rival FC Bayern Munich and SL Benfica. Other activities offered by the club include athletics (track and field), basketball, handball, table tennis, and winter sports.
Founded in 1904, Schalke have won seven German championships, five DFB-Pokals, one DFL-Supercup, and one UEFA Europa League.
Since 2001, Schalke's stadium is the Veltins-Arena. Schalke holds a long-standing rivalry with Ruhr neighbours Borussia Dortmund, arguably the most widespread and well-known rivalry in German football, and matches between the two teams are referred to as the Revierderby. The mascot of the club is named Erwin.

S04 is currently ranked as the 9th best football team in Europe and on Continental Europe by UEFA's UEFA club rankings.
In terms of operating income, Shalke possesses the 7th highest operating income of any football club on Earth at "$ 64.4 million or £ 38.2 million (€ 48 million) and 0% debt as of August 2014. S04 generates the 12th highest revenue of any football club in the world at "$ 265.6 million or £ 157.8 million (€ 198 million)".


In May 2014, Schalke 04 were ranked by Forbes Magazine as the twelfth most valuable football club in the world, at "£ 355.3 million or $ 598.5 million (€ 446 million)", an increase of 16% from the previous year."


The Veltins-Arena

The Veltins-Areanis a football stadium in Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It opened in 2001, as the new home ground for German Bundesliga club Schalke 04.

It hosted the 2004 UEFA Champions League final and 5 matches in the 2006 FIFA World Cup, including a quarter-final. It has a league capacity of 61,482 (standing and seated) and an international capacity of 53,951 (seated only). The stadium has a retractable roof and a retractable pitch. The naming rights to the stadium were sold on 1 July 2005 to the German brewery Veltins

Manager - Roberto Di Matteo

Roberto Di Matteo born 29 May 1970) is an Italian retired footballer and current manager of Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga.
During his playing career as a midfielder, he played for Swiss clubs Schaffhausen, Zürich and Aarau before joining Lazio of Italy and Chelsea of England. He was capped 34 times for Italy, scoring two goals, and played in Euro 1996 and the 1998 World Cup. He retired as a player in February 2002 at the age of 31 following injury problems.

Di Matteo managed Milton Keynes Dons, West Bromwich Albion and Chelsea. As caretaker manager of Chelsea, he steered the club to double title success, winning both the FA Cup and the club's first UEFA Champions League in 2012, but was dismissed later that year.



Bundasliga 2014-2015

Bayern will be strong favourites to win the Bundasliga this year with second favourites Dortmund expected to close the gap on the current German Champions. The big "2" clubs will be expected to challenge for the title but could Leverkusen, Schalke or even Wolfsburg be pushing to try and compete at the very top.
