The "stars" are how good they are in relation to the status of your club and your squad. If you have a squad full of world clas players and your team is considered on of the best in the world, then a player with 3 stars is areally good one, one with 4 stars would be a truly great player whilst one with 5 stars would probably be the new Messi, if not better.
