Sell Or Not?

I'm currently about to start my 3rd season of a journeyman career(though still at the same club that i've taken from the Vanarama North to League 2) and i have a dilemma with my star striker. He is clearly my best player, and too good for the club, but had managed to sign him on a free contract for 2 years on mental money. This is the last year of his contract, and as he wont sign a new one, i'm wondering whether to sell him and make around £400k, or keep him for the season and allow him to leave on a free?
