New season, New signings.

The club wasn't able to give me any sufficient transfer budget so I could only rely on free transfers. But it didn't go that bad, as I was able to sign a decent goalkeeper, and two experienced champions league players. That surely should help the team a little mentally.

The big signings

Mikael Silvestre

I had early talk to sign him, and snapped him before anyone could make any offer for him. His demands were high, but eventually was able to sign him for a weekly wage of £12k/week.

Roy Makaay

Considering his experience and talent, I didn't hesitate to sign him even though his wage demand high, but in the end, signed him for a £12k/week deal.

Miguel Angel Angulo

I was looking to replace Zicu since he wasn't a natural Right winger, and so I decided to sign in the former Valencia right winger for free.

I was also able to offload some players, and earn some transfer budget, and looking to add some hot prospect for the team if possible, so I am still in a transfer market.

About his First Eleven

Considering the low transfer budget, I had to keep an eye on the players that were about to have their contact expired. And so far, I am quiet pleased with the signings. At the start of the season, I was asked by the board to build a team that would manage to score a respectable mid table position, and so I believe this team, would be good enough to achieve just that. I am pleased with the depth, but I don't want to go over board by eying for the championship. All we need to do this season, is to concentrate on the mid table spot, and eveything would go just fine.

The Chelsea Rumor

I was surprised to be linked to manage Chelsea, but they never approached me. It did shook me at first, but I don't think I am ready to buy a winning eleven, I am more looking to build a team, thats what I am doing here at Southampton.

Any more signings?

Maybe one or two signings, I am still looking to buy a second choice left winger, so I am still in the hunt but I also want to give the young players from the academy a chance.

The Highlight

It wasn't the best of the start for the Saints, when we were 2 goals down at one stage. In the second half, many changes were made, including putting on the successful pair of Saganowski and Lambert. Soon Sagaonowski finds the net, and gives Saints the life line they needed. And then, in 78th minute, Lambert finally found the equalizer for the Saints rounding off a solid performance. It was a good show, and Southampton showed great spirit as they were up for the challenge against the big boys, but now it was time to focus on the present goal, which was to perform well in the coca cola championship.

A Horrible Start

The season kicks off at Sheffield and it was a total disaster. The defense looked shaky, and they looked as if they were still in pre season friendlies. Within 21 minutes, Sheffield Wednesday were able to take a 3-0 lead, and the Saints heart were broken. We then tried somehow to salvage a point, but in the 62nd minute we went even further behind, as they made sure of all three points. But right at the end, Lambert scores with 1 minute of normal time left, and soon, Dean Hammond scored in injury time to restore some pride, but it was inevitable that Sheffield were by far the better side that day. The defence, who did concede a lot of goals in the pre season, looks shaky as the season kicks off.

Sheffield Wednesday 4 - Southampton 2

The Bad run of form continues in the Carling cup

Another disappointing show as the defence failed to perform, conceding 5 goals against a lower division side. They took the lead once as the score line was 4-3 at one stage, but Norwich clawed their way back into the match, and won the match 5-4. It was highly entertaining, but Southampton should have won the match.

Rock Bottom

One of the worst start in recent time, sees Southampton right at the foot of the league table in the month of September. two win in the middle did give some hope, but sooner they got paid for playing very defensive.

Win against Scunthrope

256px-Scunthorpe_United_Logo.png

Southampton were once again 2 goals down, but a stunning hat rick from Sagaonowski saved the day for the Saints, and gives them their first victory in 6 matches, something Southampton desperately needed. For the first time, Sergey was seen, employing his midfielders to attack more then defend.

Scunthrope 2 - Southampton 3
Gary, McCann - Saganowski (3 goals)

The win helps Southampton take over Hull's position and are now eying to get off the relegation zone.
