michaelgray_profile.ashx

Gray has been capped by England on three occasions and has also played for Blackburn, Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday.
Gray earned his first cap for England on 28 April 1999, coming on as a 74th minute substitute in the 1-1 friendly draw with Hungary at the Nepstadion in Budapest. He made his competitive debut on 5 June, coming on for Graeme Le Seux at half-time in the 0-0 draw with Sweden during Euro 2000 qualifying. On 9 June, Gray made his first start for England in the 1-1 draw with Bulgaria, this was also during Euro 2000 qualifying.

He is mostly remembered for his 12-year stay with hometown club Sunderland, where he made 363 league appearances between 1992 and 2004. Whilst at Sunderland he spent a brief time on loan at Celtic and in 2004 he completed a move to Blackburn Rovers and later played for Leeds, Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday. Overall he made 534 appearances and scored 22 goals in a career that spanned over seventeen years.

Sheffield FC chairman believed that Gray has all the credentials to further the club on the field and off of it by using his exceptional understanding for the game and tactical nous in order to charge an assault on the automatic promotion spot in the Northern Premier League Division One South.

Pre-season update

Michael Gray had a mixed start to life at Sheffield FC after he managed three wins, two draws and two defeats in their pre-season campaign. Gray tampered with many different tactics in order to find the correct formula for his squad going into the new season as Sheffield FC played three different formations during pre-season, 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3 and 3-4-1-2. The 4-2-3-1 formation turned out to be their best tactic results wise as they managed to pick up two wins and one draw using this tactic.

Sheffield FC's best player of pre-season was striker Bennie Igiehon after he bagged four goals in as many appearances whilst winger Matt Roney also managed to score three goals and also grabbed two assists over the course of pre-season.
