Was a couple of seasons ago when he scored 20 odd goals in league, think it was the year after ronaldo left to go to Real Madrid, ever since then he has barely done anything, even less now rvp is the main man! He was our best player at the World Cup? Surely you are joking, he scored a tap in, joe hart could of scored that, if he was our bed player then why did the whole nation criticise him?
He's scored over 20 goals in a BPL season twice over the last 5 years... He has barely done anything? For example, last season he scored 17 and assisted 10 in 29 league games. RVP was the main man? This shows all you know, Rooney got more goals per game in the League than RVP last season, despite Rooney often playing as a number 10. Rooney also had more key passes per game, dribbles and was fouled more often. Yes, Rooney was our best player at the world cup. Who else was, the only other players who made any impact were Sterling and Sturridge. And the best player of a team often gets criticized if the team doesn't win, are you honestly suggesting that Rooney deserved the hate he got more than the rest of the squad?

Cheers mate, i think i've shut him up haha

You're bypassing that even in an abysmal season for Manchester United as a club, Rooney has scored 17 goals, and got 10 assists in 29 appearances, with the vast majority of that coming as a number 10. While at the time Rooney could have been considered overpriced, over the last 10 years the amount of money that his goals have brought to the club has been astonishing, and he has more than payed that back.

And when you were saying about Neymar, RVP and Messi carrying their nations (before the 'wow') you seemingly 'forgot' Ronaldo, honest mistake? Balon D'or winner, yet has only scored 2 world cup goals. It's not only Rooney mate.

And who exactly were the few English players that shone? The only one that i'd consider to have impressed is Raheem Sterling. Rooney also has way more pressure on him than any other English player, because he knows that if England don't win he'll get blamed. The argument about Ferguson is also invalid in my opinion. Yes, he was an incredible manager and we may never see another manager like him at United, but Rooney's stats don't lie, Rooney has also performed under Moyes, as i have previously stated, in a team that was no where near as special as other teams that he's been in.

If Rooney wasn't special he wouldn't be so highly considered by managers such as Fergie and Mourinho, the latter allegedly wanting to pay £40 million for him at Chelsea.

I get you sentiment, and probably the one thing we'll agree on regarding Rooney is to agree to disagree. One thing you need to understand is English players are overpriced and overrated, not saying Rooney is complete ****, I just don't think he's worldclass, to me he does what most average forward does, I won't put him on same level as Suarez, Messi, Ronaldo (and this is one player I can't stand). Some players are wanted by managers not just because of their abilities, hope you realize that, some times it's marketing reason. So many players I'd take over Rooney if I was a manager, just me, I just don't see it, sorry.

Fair play, i do understand your points but it's obvious that neither of us are going to change out minds. One thing i have to say is the average forward gets no where near 158 goals in 307 games, which is over a goal every two games. It's not on Messi or Ronaldo's level i do understand that, but the thing with Suarez is that he's only achieved those astonishing results over the past couple of seasons, and doesn't contribute to the overall build up as much as Rooney does in my opinion.

Someone said if he was an Arsenal player I'd probably see him differently. Maybe, maybe not, I personally feel we haven't had players I'd tag as worldclass in the last 5 years apart from RVP, so I just might not think he's worldclass, I believe we have had some good decent players, but nowhere near worldclass in my opinion.

I also get he's got a lot on his shoulders, don't get me started on the England national team which is another possible reason I'm trying hard to see what the fuss is all about and not seeing it, the abysmal display from our English national team who have consistently disappointed us after massive high hopes before a tournament, then you look at their valuation and you wonder "WHAT THE FLYING ****!?!?!?!" Andy carroll for instance, the fee spent on his move from Newcastle to Liverpool or even the amount united paid for Smalling and Jones and you look at players bought for half their prices and you want to yank your hair off until you're completely bald.

Tbf I don't really see why the England team is even expected to perform well at the world cup?! I mean, no offence, but the team is, well mediocre at best!
Rooney is definitely one of the better players in it though. Always unfairly criticized and lambasted - has become sort of a scapegoat - truly sad his situation..

On topic - Shifting Rooney is a good move, however I have had him in an AMC position and he does really well - remember having him in one of the saves and he set up and scored 20+ goals total each season, which is fairly well considering I used him until he turned 32. So. :p
