I have just started a season with Southampton. Normal squad plus Jermaine Jenas.
Struggling to find a winning tactic/formations.
Any suggestions for tactics/formations?

Why not start out using a flat 442 using a Balanced-Counter approach and either use possession based shouts or more attack depending on what you see on the pitch.

I am playing with 4-2-3-1 with Macheda(poacher) or Lambert (TM Support) on top. I am testing 4-1-3-2 atm with to supporting wingbacks, an anchorman and low defensive line.
