Hey guys

I've only lost 2 games in the last season (at the end of the season) and even went to beat Ath Madrid with my average team (Anderlecht). And now I can't even win against low teams in my own league.

I guess it's because they started to play more defensivly against me? How can I best handle defensive teams?

Thanks

It's possible, but surely you'd see this?

If they are more defensive, you need a more patient style and most importantly, good movement between the lines.

Hey

Thanks for your reply.

I honestly don't know much about football, but I feel like they are playing more defensive yeah.

So if I understand correctly, you're saying I should play lower tempo?

No, that's not what I said. If you're looking for more specific info, post your entire tactical setup. I just saw your post and it's very, very poor. Your entire gameplan relies on the striker. If he's crowded out or has an off day, you'll struggle.

Hey, yeah I tried to post it here, but
Yeah, I figured my tactic is just bad, because like I said, I don't know **** about football.

But how did I manage to win so much with a bad tactic :-\

You were either a restart warrior or you were so damned lucky. Couldn't imagine another scenario.

Thanks for the links. I've read trough the book. Very hard to understand for someone that doens't know alot about football tho haha. But I hope my knowledge will improve while playing the game.

I'm going to start a new save with MAN UTD. Since I guess it will be easier to learn with them since they have such a huge transfer budget and get to play against better teams.

If you come across something you don't understand, ask, whether it's here or over there. We all started with zero or little knowledge at some point.

You had basic issues. Only one player consistently attacking the box. A very aggressive midfield, which may see you leaving big gaps defensively. A backline all on defend, which apart from being a little flat in defence, also provides no usefulness with the ball. The TIs were probably an attempt to fix the basic issues you had, but they were a mess, tbh. Start with fewer (or no) TIs and add them when you see you need them. THoG's guide describes TIs and PIs (among other things) brilliantly.

You need more than one player attacking the box regularly for a general working tactic. That's not to say other tactics cannot work, but they're more specialised.

Movement between the lines is important. I winger holding position or coming inside, leaves space (by drawing in his marker) for an overlapping fullback. A striker dropping deep or pulling wide, pulls defenders away from their position, ready for a midfielder (wide or central) to take advantage by attacking that space. A midfielder needs too screen the defence to cover for an attacking fullback. There are many more scenarios, but those will maybe help your thinking along.

As I said though, if you don't know or want to learn more, please ask.

EDIT: I'm very surprised you got away with that tactic. I'm hoping for an improved AI this time around so that tactics like that won't get so lucky and we don't dominate as easily.

Thanks for the help :)

So would playing a shadow striker or attacking midfielder behind my striker be a good idea? I was thinking of letting Vico play this role since he already has a good scoring rate. (8goals & 6 assists in 12 league games)

And my fullbacks need to move up the field more if I understand correctly?

Depends on the striker's role. He'd need to do as I said.

If they support play more, you have more passing options and also engage attackers earlier as they are higher up the pitch.

This is all covered in the linked guides.

did i miss the post where you put your tactic in and discussed the actual issues your having?

For some reason he didn't think to include it here, but the thread on SI has it.

No, my post count wasn't high enough yet to post pictures or links.

This is my formation right now.

Winning a bit more, but feel like there is still a lot wrong with it lol.

Have no instructions yet.

Yeah, you're leaving Praet to do a **** of a lot of work in midfield on his own. Pairs and Combinations!

Yup what WJ says.

Thats a painful amount of defending for a player like Praet to do.

Yeah maybe i should sell praet and buy a better defensive midfielder?

You don't seem to be paying attention to the posts or the guides. If nothing else, watch a match. Praet will be on his own in midfield. You're bombing everyone else forward. A 4-2-3-1 typically has two steady midfielders.
