I'm almost half way through season 1 (15-16) playing as Liverpool. Sturridge has returned from injury and is playing well as a lone striker, but I'm obviously concerned about his propensity to be injured. Can anyone recommend some young strikers (age <24) to bring in for next season to be a backup/long term replacement? I'm assuming I'll have substantial funds...

Origi is an option and will be getting some rotation time anyway. I've written off Benteke (I gave him a chance but he started demanding first team football and threatened to leave!)

In my current Serie A save Mauro Icardi bangs in about 35-40 league goals a season(AI controlled). Hes a beast and young but will be expensive. Offset it from the cost of selling Sturridge and Benteke...

Icardi scored 39 league goals in a season for Liverpool in coolmcool's Leeds story

Depends on the role. If you need a deep-lying forward, false 9, trequarista sort of type, go for Dybala. A poacher, advanced forward, then go for Icardi.

Thanks all. I play with a single striker, flanked by two wide inside forwards. I've found that using that as a complete forward is being most successful at the moment, but it needs a player who will be flexible, participate in the build up and drag defenders out wide where possible.

Icardi looks good, but the cost is high and I'm a cheapskate at heart. I'll get those suggestions scouted before the transfer window opens.

I would go for Embolo, he's got bags of potential. You could play sturridge while he develops, and even play him on the wing from time to time to give him playing time. Any time Sturridge speed dials the hospital you can slot him in up front, SORTED! No complaints from Sturridge, having to dual it out with another player for a starting spot and a future world beater added to your squad for about 15m ;)

Dybala seems to have the greatest potential according to my scouts but doesn't want to join (that may change once I'm qualified for the champions league); Embolo is not far behind, is much younger, but costs are estimated between £11-23m which should be affordable. I'll re-compare those two towards the end of the season.

Morata has already gone to Arsenal; Icardi is still on the short list. Also on there is Alcacer and a couple of other players I'm keeping my eye on.

End result was that I brought in Embolo for £10.25m (bit of a bargain, I think). Gabriel Barbosa was then transfer listed so I got him for £9m (work permit wasn't an issue). I've got rid of Balotelli (£20m to Man City, lol) and Benteke (£7.25m, a big loss but only financially) which still leaves me with Sturridge and Ings as pure strikers, plus Origi, Embolo and Barbosa who are also able to play out wide (AND Coutinho, Firmino and Ibe as wide midfielders) - going to be a bit of rotation this season, I think.

Actually, this raises and interesting question - is Ings actually any good?

My assistant gives lots of pros (ambitious, good pace and consistent basically) and obviously being English is useful for squad building, but he's supposedly injury prone and not up for big games. In the first season he played 18 league games (10 starts) and scored 5 goals; across all competitions this was 15 (19) and 6 goals with an average rating of 6.82.

Given that he's valued at £22.5m right now I'm half tempted to try and sell him. Has anyone had luck developing him into a good player?

Luan...

Cracking Brazilian from Gremio called Luan and cheap...picked him up for £7m in first season...currently scored 34 goals in 32 in first season as Sturridge was injured far too often...

Everton had already bought him - £8.25m. Looks good, but scored 6 in 14 in season 1 and, so far, 2 in 12 in season 2.

Whats with Richairo Zivkovic, great for Middlesbrough prem 12 goals in 13 games for me second season

Get Gabriel Barbosa. And keep him rotating with Sturridge regularly.

Use Ings, Balotelli and Origi as backup. (Or sell 2 of them if you play a lone striker.)

For 22.5m I would definitely sell Ings on and bolster a different area of the squad. He's a solid backup player, but he will never be a player that you want starting if you have better quality. Both Embolo and Barbosa will turn out better.
