Right. Eastbourne Borough management take 2!

As most of you know, I was struggling with the speed of the game in my previous Eastbourne game, so I have decided to start a new Eastbourne Game (was gonna do Brentford but I can't work with only 3 coaches and that's all they'll give me - their loss. I would've taken them to the EPL and beyond but not now!).
So, my Eastbourne game will now be started with just 2 Leagues playable - England (Obviously!) and Scotland to try and keep the save game size to a minimum. The other change I have decided on is not to load players from Reunion (just to make it that little bit harder!)

Taken from The Herald:

DISBELIEF AND SHOCK AT PRIORY LANE

There was complete shock and utter disbelief at Priory Lane, the home of Eastbourne Borough Football Club, today as previous manager, Garry Wilson, shocked the fans by announcing he was leaving the club.

"After a continuous 20 years in football, I have decided to leave the club and spend time with my family. I want to thank the board and the fans of the club for all their support over the last 9 1/2 years and hope that you will give the same support to whoever takes over from me at the club. This team will always have a special place in my heart and I now look forward to watching the games as a fan from the stands. Thankyou very much"

Dean Johnson, the Fans Spokesperson had this to say:

"We are, obviously, extremely disappointed that Garry has left the club. He brought stability to the club as well as generating a family orientated surrounding. However, we understand his need to spend time with his family and wish him all the best. We now wait in eager anticipation as to who the club sign as a successor"

2 Hours later, the Borough board hastily arranged a press conference. We assumed it was to announce a new manager and that proved to be correct:

Len Smith, the Borough chairman:

"Obviously we are all still shocked by the resignation of Garry but now it is time to look to the future. So I am, therefore, pleased to announce the appointment of David Barrett as the new Eastbourne Borough Manager. I hope you will all give him the support he needs to continue the progress of this club. Now I hand to over to David:

"Oh wow. This is the greatest moment of my life. To be able to be given the opportunity to manage my local club is beyond my wildest dreams. I can only hope that I live up to my predecessor who did a fantastic job with this club. I am extremely ambitious and, although I won't be making any pronouncements on what I want to achieve, lets just say that I feel this club is currently living up to about 1% of its potential. Thankyou for your time and I look forward to our journey together."

Dean Johnson:

"Why the club have decided to appoint an unknown manager at this time I do not know. Frankly, I am angry that the board have done this and will be telling them as much. As to Mr Barrett's proclamation about the club's potential, I agree that there is so much more to come from this club with the right person in charge. I just do not believe Mr Barrett is the right person to achieve this. However, I would be happy if he proved us wrong. I guess we will have to wait and see"

So, in the space of a day we have had an experienced manager resign and an unknown manager take the helm of this club. Many people will question the ambitions of the Board after this. We will have to wait and see whether the Board know something that, it appears, everyone else doesn't. This reporter, for one, will be watching with great interest.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, the fans aren't happy at my appointment. I guess I will have to win them round with my take on Total Football (win more matches than I lose!:P). From my previous game with Eastbourne, I know that the team needs strengthening but, as it is a new game and new thread, I will pretend that I have never managed the team before.
I walked into the dressing room to meet the team and, boy, have I never felt so many people's hostility in all my life. I don't think the players are impressed with my appointment and they certainly aren't shy in showing it. I can already hear whispers in the corners of "Does he even have a clue what he's doing?", "Who the **** is he?", "I bet he doesn't last more than a week". Clearly I needed to impose my authority on the players straight away:

"Look, lads, I appreciate that you may think I don't have a clue about what I'm doing but I have been playing Football Management games for over 12 years now. I know exactly what I am doing!"

Obviously this didn't get the response I was hoping for as they started laughing at me. However, not to be deterred, I ploughed on:

"Okay, fine. If that's the way you want it. Regardless of what you may think of me, I AM THE MANAGER NOW! You all now play for me and you will play for me or you will be leaving very quickly. Now, everyone will have a chance to impress me during pre-season and if any of you don't impress me then, come the first game of the season, you won't be playing. Now, do we have any problems?"

Funnily enough, the sniggers and comments quickly stopped and the players sat up and took notice. Clearly, this was going to be a battle of wills and I would have to use my authority to keep them in check.

First things first, Finances:

Transfer Budget £4k
Wage Budget £5,918 (currently used: £5,180)

So, not a lot to play with then. I need new coaches in all areas, a new Assistant and new players. Won't be easy but I am supremely confident.

Squad:

Not a very good squad, needs strengthening in all areas.

Board expectations are to avoid relegation this season as we are only newly promoted. I think I can achieve this but only with reinforcements as I don't believe the team is good enough at the moment. Now lets see if we can get these players on full time contracts. Thats it for now, I will update when I have news.

Good Luck mate :D, wounder if you will make it to the Premiership this time lol

lol. Good question. I'm hoping to carry on longer this time as I have loaded less leagues, thereby reducing the game save size

Here's a screeny of my Hyde United team in the BSN if you wanna take a look through some of the players for your side, most of them a BSP quality. In game date is 18th of November 2009.

Cheers. I'll have a look after. By the way, after moaning that Brentford only have 3 coaches, it turns out (I forgot) Eastbourne can have 1!!!! Luckily, there is more than 1 when I start

Good luck nursemorph.I shall read with interest at your ups and downs of managing Eastbourne Borough.Persevere mate.

Yeah i hate how you can only have 1 coach, my teams fitness levels are terrible because i'm in the FA Cup 1st rnd, FA Trophy, Setanta Shield and i'm trying to keep going in the league(on a 14 game streak without losing). I can't help but think a good fitness coach would change everything.

Ahh Why super Sports?. I looked at your old thread title and thought it was about random zzz sports only 1/50 people care about :p

Good luck and a good read so far

Right, the game has begun.....the lines have been drawn..........let battle commence! Grrrrrrr. Time to battle with my fellow managers to get that hidden gem of a player, a decent player or, failing that, just any **** player I can get my hands onoO). My fellow managers are not nice people and kept on stealing players whose destiny should have been to sign for Eastbourne and become stars. Instead, they went to other teams where they will probably do better:@. Anyway, I finally managed to sign some players (I've not considered myself lucky before but I seem to have luck at the moment cos I've actually managed to sign some players!). As to whether they turn out to be random wastes of space (and wages) only time will tell but I'm stuck with them now. So who are these (un)lucky players who now have David Barrett (Manager Extraordinaire) as their Manager. Well, here they are:

View attachment 4608

The next question you are asking is: Who the effing **** are most of them? Thats a very good question and one I will now try to answer:

Zlatko Yankov (DC,DMC,MC): LLM Managers love him. Fans cheer for him and sing songs about him: "He's old, he's slow, he's Zlatko" or opposition fans can be heard chanting "They think its all over.....It is now. Zlatko's brought his Zimmer Frame with him"
David Bingham (AMLC,FC): Another golden oldie with no pace but plenty of grit and determination to make up for it. Plus he has some stamina....almost as much as the Duracell Bunny
Bruce Cormie (ML): Another Golden oldie, although compared to the others he's still in nappies at the age of 31. Works hard, can cross and can accelerate over 1 yard at which point he slows right down.....if they show him in slow motion, it would appear he is in reverse
Rory Curtis (AMR): He's 18 (I know, thats my transfer policy in tatters) but he can cross and has very good natural fitness. Will tire easily in games but be ready to go again the next day
Joe Miller (AMR,FC): Another Golden Oldie. I heard him the other day taking bets with Yankov on who retires first. At 40, he has 2 years on Yankov, so.......
Russell Short (DC): I don't know why I bought him, although he is young at 18. Scout said he was good, my Assistant says he is quality and almost as good as Yankov; my opinion is he is **** and have told him "Russell, you are ****. No idea why I bought you but feel free to prove me wrong". Suffice to say, he wasn't very pleased with me.
Darren Barnard (D,WBL): hmmm...He's old, he's slow but he is lethal with set pieces (at least I hope so cos thats the reason I bought him). He can tackle a little bit which is always a bonus when signing defenders ;)

Thats it for incoming transfers. Outgoings I won't mention cos the players were even more **** than what I bought in. Amazingly, my average squad age is only 25. In fact, I almost fell off my chair when I saw it :O. Good job I didn't though or I would've missed some of the matches and how could the lads possibly cope without me shouting at them: "You're ****", "You're too slow", "You're too old" or if playing really badly "You realise I could improve this team by replacing you with 11 squirrels?"

So, this is my team for the start of the season:

View attachment 4609

Please note the lack of loan signings. I did try; I even got a parent club: Brighton & Hove Albion. What I didn't figure on was that Brighton players are too **** lazy to want to travel the 17.5 miles to play for Eastbourne. They could've come to us and been Gods but chose to stay at Brighton and be morons. oO)

Pre-Season:

Newtown 0-2 Eastbourne: Sigere, Atkin
Bishop's Stortford 1-3 Eastbourne: Curtis, Bingham, Atkin
Havant & W 1-1 Eastbourne: Harding
Eastbourne 1-0 Tottenham Reserves: Miller
St. Albans 1-3 Eastbourne: Brown, Tait, Sigere
Horsham 0-2 Eastbourne: Archibald, Brown

Well, well, well. Undefeated in pre-season friendlies including a fantastic smash-and-grab raid on Tottenham Reserves (how do you like them apples? :P). Even more amazingly is my players, in the general, have played well. Whats astounding and shocking is they have scored goals. Yes, yes, I know: How can David have a team that scores goals, even against weaker opposition? Surely he must be cheating? :P. Honestly, I'm not(A)

Pre-season is now over. The players almost hugged and kissed me when I told them that they can stop with the pre-season training programme. They really hate doing anything that involves hard work (well, unless the hard work is lifting a pint to their lips, then they revel in it). First game is a Home tie against Rushden, predicted to be 10th by the Media and are even favourites for the match. I hope to spring a surprise and prove the odds correct by losing. Onwards and backwards!

By the way, you may have noticed that this thread is slightly different to my previous one. I like to think of myself as funny (some people think I'm as funny as a plank of wood but most just think I'm funny.......and should be shipped off to the nearest mental institution!) and so want to conduct my thread accordingly. Please let me know if you don't like it. I can handle criticism (well, I can't but I won't have a choice!)

glad uv come back hope u av a better time this time around.

But if it was about a random sport, I would've got an infraction for posting in the wrong section ;). Plus they are Super....well, they will be.....hopefully.....before the year 2100.

glad uv come back hope u av a better time this time around.

I hope so too. although judging by my signings so far, I'm not too sure

I like the style actually. You've inspired me and I think I'm gonna start a new game with less leagues to speed it up and make a similar thread. Any suggestions on a team.

Thanks. Hmm...who would I suggest? Let me think?.......Eastbourne? Weston maybe?

My Bad :p Bingham what a player back in the day.

My Bad :p Bingham what a player back in the day.

Oh yeah he was. I used to always buy him on CM3 for Rangers and he used to be immense

UPDATE

August:

Home (League) Eastbourne 3-1 Rushden: Barnard, Baker, Curtis. hmmm.....a suspiciously good start to the season. Ahead after 2 minutes, not quite the start I was expecting. Something's seriously wrong here
Away (League) Stevenage 2-1 Eastbourne: Tait. Nope, nothing wrong as it turns out. Good to see my faith in my players has been restored.
Away (League) Oxford 1-1 Eastbourne: Tait. What the ****? One of my strikers has actually had the cheek to go and score 2 games in a row. Had a word with Tait afterwards "You have scored 2 games in a row? Why? Whats wrong with you?" He walked off without responding shaking his head.
Home (League) Eastbourne 0-1 Cambridge. Normal service is now resumed. "Couldn't hit a 40 mile wide barn door" was the motto of the day. I tell the players I am proud of them for proving me correct that the first game was a fluke. They tell me to p*** off. Nice players:O
Away (League) Grays 1-2 Eastbourne: Sigere, Atkin. This is just wrong on so many levels. Now my other strikers feel like scoring. What is wrong with them? 2 shots on target - 2 goals? Did the opposition play a striker in goal maybe?

At this point, tactics were changed to see if I could get them to stop scoring goals so went from Clough's tactics to my variation on 5x5442Control.

Home (League) Eastbourne 3-1 Altrincham: Archibald, Yankov, Atkin. Hmmm.....3 shots on target - 3 goals. I'm convinced my opposition managers are not playing goalkeepers.

Well, an interesting start to the season. At this rate, my players might start thinking about play-offs and, say it quietly, promotion. I realise I must keep my players' feet on the floor, so I drive 6 inch nails through them. Sadly, I don't think it'll slow them down cos they were slow to begin with. To my disgust, they are sat 9th in the League table. My Player Of The Month is Allan Tait with: 3 appearances, 2 goals, 1 assist average rating 7.23. I'll be damned if I'm gonna tell him though - can't have my players liking me....that would just be wrong.

We are now off to the delightful month of September where my players will be thinking of Christmas and therefore not concentrating on football. This will lead to us slipping down the League back to our rightful place at the bottom.

September:

Home (League) Eastbourne 0-1 Forest Green
Away (League) Mansfield 1-0 Eastbourne
Home (League) Eastbourne 1-2 Histon: Curtis
Away (League) Torquay 3-0 Eastbourne
Away (League) Ebbsfleet 1-0 Eastbourne
Home (League) Eastbourne 2-0 Kidderminster: Tait, Curtis

Not exactly what I'd call an inspiring month. The players are showing me exactly what they are made of: currently, I am of the belief that they are made of Jelly. The win against Kidderminster was rather fortuitous and was nothing to do with me or changing the tactics or anything. As the saying goes, these things happen. It'll be interesting to see what the lad's manage next month. I believe it'll be New Year and what parties they will attend that will occupy their minds this month.

er... you mind if I copycat you with those heral tribune articles in my thread? I am looking for something to make my thread more interesting, dunno like narrated by max payne or something. Well, at least now you have a game that will last at least 200 hours before you get to CL, the next FM will be out by then.

What have youtold the board that you expect???

I've told the board I intend to battle bravely against relegation. I always go for the lowest possible choice when given the choice. Thats how I live my life: expect the worst so if it happens, then you won't be disappointed. If the worst doesn't happen, you'll be delighted. Optimistic person aren't I?:P

No, I don't mind you copycatting me. In fact, I'm delighted that someone would want to do things like me :D. I'm gonna try and go as far as I can on this game. I read a thread on the SI Forum of someone who began a Journeyman career and was still going at the year 2010...so thats my aim

Eastbourne Boro fans are still unhappy with the appointment of Dave Barrett.
News in Boro fans are staging a massive boycott of their next home game. LOL
