Suspended players

I started a game as Arsenal, but some of my players are suspended for one international match. I understand that ... but why does this mean I can't play them in any game at all until the season starts, including reserve games and friendlies against non-international teams? They're suspended until the start of the season, and it means I can't get them match-fit before the first Premier League game.

... there's another one? *sigh* 1.1.0 was the official one when I patched up. How can a game need so many patches this early?

Not going to have to restart my game, am I ...?

Usually bug fixing is save game compatible, its only databse changes like transfers that require the starting of a new game to take effect.
