A suspicious package found at Celtic Park is being investigated by police.

Strathclyde Police officers confirmed they were made aware of a package on Thursday morning and officers were at the stadium to investigate it.

STV News understands the package contained a bullet and was addressed to Celtic manager Neil Lennon.

The development comes hours after two men were arrested in Ayrshire in connection with parcel bombs which were sent to Mr Lennon and two high profile supporters of the club, and an alleged assault on the Celtic manager at Tynecastle during a game against Hearts.

The men, aged 41 and 43, were apprehended at a house in Innerwood Road in Kilwinning and at an address in Links Road, Saltcoats. Specially trained forensics officers are at the scenes of the operations and will be there throughout the day gathering evidence.

Police would not confirm any further details of the package found at Celtic Park, or reports about another package at the club's training ground.

Four "viable" devices were sent to Mr Lennon, his lawyer Paul McBride QC and former MSP Trish Godman in the last two months. The first suspect package addressed to Mr Lennon was intercepted by Royal Mail staff at a sorting office in Saltcoats on March 4.

Another suspect package addressed to the Celtic manager was intercepted at the Kirkintilloch sorting office on March 26, before the third bomb was delivered to the constituency office of the former deputy presiding officer of the Scottish Parliament, Ms Godman.

On April 15, a further package, addressed to Mr McBride, was intercepted by Royal Mail staff at a postbox in Montgomerie Terrace, Kilwinning. Another suspect package was found at the return letter centre in Belfast, addressed to Glasgow-based Cairde Na h'Éireann (Friends of Ireland), on April 26.
