Hi,

Basically I have played 1 season of success and had many failed attempts with different teams after it, feels like nothing I try seems to work. Is there a problem with the FM engine or what?

I would appreciate any tactical advice because right now I can't seem to win with anyone, last FM I had no problems but so far this FM it has been terrible.

Download some of the uploaded successful tactics, study them and see if you can use their ideas to create your own.

I did download a few but they didn't seem that successful, I was just wondering if there is a common theme that produces any success. I don't like copying other peoples formations either, I like making and uses my own but wouldn't mind a lil tactical input from other people who aren't having problems.

Still having massive issues with tactics, anyone with experience and advice would be much appreciated.

Post some results, match stats etc. It'll help people see where things are going wrong.

You're playing a very fluid system with three specialists. Generally speaking, the more fluid your system, the fewer specialists (like playmakers and particularly a false nine) you should have in your team. I'd recommend you move to a less fluid system - fluid, or even balanced. I like playing rigid systems because I have have more clearly defined roles, and a more rigid system might work in this sense if you're playing a false nine - and then think about how you want your team to play.

So, a false nine. Drops deep, drags defenders around. Totti is perfect for this, but from what I can see you don't have anyone exploiting that space. If I were you, I'd take one winger (either side) and use him as a winger - support. This'll stretch the play and give your other players more room to work in. On the other side, you can have an IF - Attack to exploit the space left, and if necessary the full-back behind him can be set to attack to exploit the space he leaves too. Finally, you want a midfielder breaking forward into the holes the false nine leaves to provide a goal threat. I'd change Pjanic to a CM - Attack for this reason. You can experiment with other things too; I'd be tempted to put De Rossi as my DLP - Defend and change Strootman to a box to box, giving me two points of attack from deeper in midfield, but try whatever you want.

Finally, give it some time. You don't want to just chop and change constantly. Give it five, six, seven games before you are sure the new tactics aren't working. Also, watch the match on comprehensive and if necessary 2D. It helps with understanding how your players move and are positioned (average positions in the analysis tab is also useful for this).

Good luck!

PS: Forgot to mention that you're playing a high tempo with retain possession on. That's generally a bit of an oxymoron.

The basic structure is quick tempo > direct football, and slow tempo > possession football. Retain possession is of course linked to possession football (and short passing, and so on and so forth), and thus slow tempo, so it gets a bit muddled. I'm not saying it's impossible for it to work - JP Woody's latest tactic is a quick, direct game with short passing and it worked very well in the games I tested it out in - but if you're having trouble or are new to the series it's easier to just stick with the regular formulas.

In this case, I'd try a slower, possession based game. Totti ain't a speedster so getting the ball up to him quickly through transitions so that you can exploit a disorganised opposition won't be as effective. Likewise, a direct game won't help your false nine affect the game in the way you want him to. What you do want is a slower game, giving time for the complex machinations of your attack to click into place, with Totti dropping deep > CMs moving up and IF moving in > FB occupying wide space left by the IF. Another benefit is that your attackers are given more time on the ball, rushing them less and allowing them to pick out more incisive passes, which is vital for this style of attack.

I tried what was recommended and I'm getting beat and dominated, the False 9 just wants to shoot all the time and despite me putting on work into box and player instruction shoot less Totti still does it anyway and aside from long shots they don't do anything.

Last FM I had tactics down to perfection and this FM just totally struggling to get a decent tactic.

looks like you went from one extreme to the other...try reducing the Amount of instructions, first of all try a balanced style I'm one for fluid possession football but that's me ha take of drill crosses allow wide players to swap remove stick to position if you want them to be more expressive or vice versa and take of much lower tempo and run at defense

as for specific instructions have your dm set to mark more tightly and close down more same goes for your full backs but add run wide with ball if you want to encourage wide play, simply try your forward as an AF and keep forward as much possible see how you get on but as previously stated we need pics of matches to see what actually goes wrong
