Tactics for newcastle and top 6 push

Hi all. Currently newcastle and in 2nd season ,finished 7th in 1st season playing a 4-4-1-1 formation. But this season i wanted to push on and be more attack minded. This hasnt worked out as planned and i am hovering above mid table. Having thought about whati want id like my team to be direct. A pressing counter attacking team. Any help would be nice?
