AC Milan have secured the services of Nigeria left-back Taye Taiwo and France defender Philippe Mexes for next season, Rossoneri coach Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed.

The Italian champions, who won the Scudetto on Saturday after a 0-0 draw at Roma, have already moved to strengthen their squad for the 2011-12 campaign.

Milan's interest in Mexes has been known for some time and the centre-back, who has already played his last game for Roma after requiring surgery on a knee ligament injury in April, will move to the San Siro on a free transfer.

He will be joined in defence by Marseille left-back Taiwo, who also arrives on a Bosman, with Allegri happy to have moved early to acquire the pair's services.

"In defence, Milan are sorted,'' Allegri said in a press conference on Monday. "We have taken (Philippe) Mexes and Taiwo.''

Taiwo, 26, has enjoyed a fine season with Marseille and scored the winning goal in last month's Coupe de France final, while Mexes will bring to an end a seven-year association with Roma.

Milan will look to take a step towards a prospective Double on Tuesday, when they travel to Palermo for their Coppa Italia semi-final return leg, having drawn 2-2 at the San Siro in April. The winners will likely face Inter Milan, who beat Roma 1-0 away in the first leg.

Mexes would have been a good buy for us instead of Seb Squalacci

Got them both for free? That's a great bit of business

Well, it's exactly what they needed. A rampaging fullback and a centre-back to complement Silva. Great deals for both of them too.

I never thought Mexes would leave Roma for another Italian club, I don't blame him though...Mexes + Thiago Silva should be a good partnership. Taiwo is decent, but where does this leave Emanuelson?

Both of them for free is fantastic business.

Holy ****, both on frees? Best business of the summer without a doubt.

Milan have done so good with the transfers recently, Ibra for 20 million when he went for 3 times that the season before. Robinho for 12 million, KPB on a co-ownership deal, Van Bommel on a free, Cassano on a free, Emanuelson for 3 million and now Taiwo and Mexes for free. Hope Milan go on and dominate the Serie A now, I kind of support them because of Pato.

****.. Would have hope for Taiwo at Liverpool

Weakest part of Milan was LB and they got good one for free. Excellent signing. Looks like Milan are on the way back to where they belong. They are moving forward and once again will become the force in Europe.

I'm not sure about Mexes though. Error prone, should have signed some other quality CB.

It's hard to understand how exactly Wenger thinks. He is willing to pay 3m pounds for Squillaci and put him on a 50,000-a-week contract and yet he passes on a free transfer for Mexes, who is a proven player and exactly the type of influential/dominant defender Arsenal need. Anyway, splendid bit of business for Milan.

You do realise that it wouldn't have been a free transfer for Mexes because we got Squillaci last summer, right?

Massive coup for both players.. now they need a destroyer and a playmaker and they'll be real forces!

Would still like another defender but this is class :D

Needing to replace Pirlo / Seedorf / Gattuso soon though.... MVB is old aswell but has been good. Dont really need any strikers thats for sure!!

Now just get Paulo Henrique (or whoever that big name midfielder is) and a hard working Gattuso/van Bommel like young midfielder and they're ready for European domination. Great bit of business.

2 great signings by Milan, Milan are coming back again you can see it.

Yes, but what I meant was that if he was willing to go to those heights to sign Squillaci, why didn't he just sign Mexes this summer and get rid of Squillaci?

I'm sure Wenger had his ears open about the whole Mexes situation (And if not, it's because he didn't deem Mexes 'in the Arsenal mould) but it just seems more likely that he didn't want to move to England, can't always sign the big names before other large clubs.
