Poor Pre-Season For Liverpool

steven-gerrard_2187499b.jpg

Liverpool endured a pretty tough pre-season tour of the U.S.A, managing to only win one of their 4 games. Rollinson did give many of the teams younger players a chance to show what they could do though. Liverpool started off with a 1-0 loss to LA Galaxy, followed by a 1-1 draw with San Antonio Scorpions, then lost 2-1 to San Jose, before things finally game together in their last game, where they won 4-0 against Toronto FC.

When asked how he felt the pre-season warm up went, Rollinson replied, "It went ok, it was a chance for me to see what our younger players had to offer. Some of the younger ones, such as Sterling, Valencia, Robinson and Flanagan are all real talents in my eyes. I will be looking to give them opportunities over the coming season to show what they can do."

The Tactic

Rollinson experimented with several tactics in the pre-season friendlies, and looks like he has settled on an abstract 5-3-2 formation. Rollinson want his team to play a fluid passing game, working the ball around while looking for the right opportunity to create a chance.

Great stuff and I love the formation and signings but may I ask who's playing that Libero role, I'm guessing you're training Lucas there as that is the only role suited to him in the team but I can't see the backup except possibly Coady who isn't proper backup.

Liverpool 4 - 1 St. Johnstone - Europa League 3rd Oualifying Round 1st Leg

View attachment 261781

Liverpool started life under Rollinson with a convincing 4-1 victory over St. Johnstone in the Europa League Qualifying. It was a game to remember for both Rollinson, and new signing Damiao, who scored an excellent hattrick on his debut. Damiao was involved in all 3 goals, playing a through ball to Dempsey, also making his debut, who put the ball home. Damiao then headed home Liverpools second, before adding two more after the break.

In a much more subdued game than the opening leg, Liverpool still came out on top, with Leandro Damiao again getting himself a goal. Damiao has really left Liverpool fans in real expectation now, having scored 4 goals in just 2 games. The fans are hoping he can keep his impressive form going.

The start of the Premier League is now less than a week away, and Liverpool face a difficult few opening games. They start the campaign away to Tottenham, then face champions Manchester City at Anfield, before travelling to Newcastle. Liverpool will also face Dundee United in the Europa League, with the first leg on 16th and the second on the 25th.

Yeah, you are correct with Lucas. I am re-training him there. I havent got an real back up, but I have got another formation that moves the Libero up to the CM position instead.

Any other feedback would be appreciated :)

Thanks for the quick reply and if that backup tactic doesn't work for you Inigo Martinez becomes the perfect Libero and Jan Vertonghen can make a good Libero.

Mixed Start For Liverpool

Tottenham 1 - 0 Liverpool - Premier League

View attachment 261836

Liverpool didnt get the start they were hoping for against Tottenham, and ended up loosing 1-0. Perhaps the worst part of the match was the injury to new striker Leandro Damiao. The Brazilian came off after just 21 minutes, and Rollinson confirmed he has been sent to a specialist to treat a hip injury which could keep him out for two months

Dundee Utd 2 - 2 Liverpool - Europa League 4th Qualifying Round Leg 1

View attachment 261837

Liverpool may count themselves unlucky after a cold frustrating night in Scotland. Dundee got off to an early lead, with Gary Aitken scoring a simple tap in. Suarez then equalised with a header, before Webster put Dundee back infront with a spectacular 25 yard strike. Suarez then equalised again, and the game finished level.

Liverpool 6 - 0 Manchester City - Premier League

View attachment 261838

We are only two games in to the Premier League season, and Liverpool have already had their game of the season. Six of the best from them against champions Manchester City. Things couldnt have started better for Liverpool after Dempsey finished after just 43 seconds. Gerrard then doubled the lead with a well placed shot, before Suarez got his first goal. Dempsey and Suarez both got another goal each, giving Liverpool a 5-0 lead at half time! Suarez then went and completed his hattrick with a header after 60 minutes.

Liverpool 4 - 0 Dundee - Europa League 4th Qualifying Round Leg 2

Liverpool and Aston Villa played out a very boring 0-0 draw at Anfield. The Reds may count themselves hard done by, but they were ultimately unable to take advantage of their extra player after Gabby Agbonlahor got sent off.

Liverpool 1 - 1 Wolfsburg - Europa League Group J

View attachment 261983

Liverpool started the group stages with a 1-1 draw against Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg looked strong throughout the game, and Vieirinha gave them the lead after 21 minutes. Liverpool had chances of their own, and Fabio Borini grabbed an equaliser just before the end. Daniel Agger was another injury blow for Liverpool, after coming of with a broken toe

Sheffield United 2 - 7 Liverpool - Capital One Cup 3rd Round

View attachment 261985

Another crushing win for Liverpool, this time against lowly Sheffied United. Luis Suarez was again the man of the show, scoring 4 goals, and got a rating of 9.9. Young Joel Valencia also made his debut for the club, and got 3 assists, and a rating of 9.3. Fabio Borini, Martin Skrtel and Sebastian Coates also got themselves on the score sheet.

Liverpool 3 - 1 Southampton

View attachment 261986

Clint Dempsey was the star of the game for Liverpool against Southampton after they completed another convincing victory. Dempsey opened the scoring with a wonderful curling shot, before Gerrard scored a contender for goal of the season with a spectacular 30 yard curling shot. Glen Johnson then gave away a penalty, which Lambert converted before Dempsey got himself another. Liverpool stars Gerrard and Suarez both came of with minor injuries

Young Boys 2 - 3 Liverpool - Europa League Group J

View attachment 261988

Liverpool just edged out winners on a cold evening at the Stade de Suisse Wankdorf (LOL EVERY TIME!) Ayew and Borini scored for Liverpool, while Bobadilla and Enrique scored an own goal for Young Boys

Premier League Table

View attachment 261989

Liverpool are currently sitting in 7th place, but have a game in hand over most teams above them. Winning their game in hand could move them up into 4th.

Liverpool Player of The Month

Luis Suarez was again voted Liverpool Player of The Month. The Uruguayan was again in superb for this month, and got himself 4 goals.
