Team only plays well against top teams

well im aston villa in first season and my team only plays/beats top teams, for example i beat man u 4-1 then next week get beet from blackpool, feel my players aren't motivated, so is that due to team talk

any solutions?

do u play defensive, counter-attacking against top teams? u can try and go all out on attack against smaller teams, or try and say that u expect them to win during team-talks
