Technically how would this work

A structured team shape, but with "be more expressive" ticked, would it cause the team to become less structured, or would it just allow more freedom in certain situations? Or would it override the shape?

Structured will have low creative freedom, so you're simply asking them to have more creative freedom.

What do you mean by structured shape?

You should be selecting Structured, because you're giving players (mostly) specific roles that you expect them to do.

That and the fact that it has slightly more space between the strata than the more fluid shapes.
