TerraFirma's 4-3-3. HUGE Success at Lower League level (BSP to Championship). View attachment 194546
An adaptation of the "Xavi 100 passes" tactic created a little while back, this uses a narrow 4-3-3 with a flat back 4, 3 central midfielders and 3 central strikers. It aims to control possession and use it effectively, close down the opposition all over the pitch and create a solid defence when the opposition has the ball in your half.
Key Attributes:
GK: Aerial Ability, Communication, Command of Area, Rushing Out

Defensive Analysis:
Despite its attacking look, the tactic is defensively quite sound. Yes, it will let the opposition have the ball out wide, but its the least threatening place on the pitch for them to do so.
Heres an example of my Hearts team defending a throw in deep in our own half. As you can see the whole of the midfield is protecting the defence and two strikers have dropped deep to be available to counter.
Heres an example of how the team exploits the opposition on the counter attack and how well the midfield retreats to the edge of the box to sheild the backline.
Dundee full back Dixon gets to the byline being closed down by the MCR. The MC and MCL in the meantime, find refuge at the edge of the box, in the event that any loose ball makes its way to the edge of the area. All three strikers drop deep in front of the opponents defensive line for a chance to counter.
The YELLOW ARROW indicates the possibility that Snoyl makes the tackle on Dixon and has the chance to launch a counter attack by knocking the ball into the channel to the STR or STC.
In this instance, Dixon manages to get his cross in, but its met by the head of my LB, Hanstveit.
This also presents a counter attacking opportunity:
Baha collects the ball and faces towards goal, its now a 3v3 and seemingly just a two passes from my STR being through on goal, exploiting his pace and Dundee's high line as a result of them attacking just seconds earlier.
Attacking Analysis:
Here is an example of the array of options available to the MC when he has the ball.
This is also an example of how, depending on what side of the pitch the ball is moved to, the Strikers move around. The STR in this example moves wide into an Inside forward position, prompting the STL to move infield, posing more problems centrally and freeing up the LB to move into space.
Here is another example of the options available to the RB when in possession. These options are key to keeping the ball and creating CCC's.
As play develops, the MCR comes deep for ball and plays it into the path of the STR who crosses to the far post for the STL to tap into the net.
