I opted for 4-1-2-3 DM Wide or 4-5-1 formation, as you wish.

So, let's analyze this formation.

It features 3 men in midfield, making it ideal for a high pressing game. Which means defensive line should be pushed up, and width narrow. It features two wingers and two sidebacks, which means we could use the narrow width giving space to wide players, and overload the flanks. So I exploit both flanks and overlap. Possession game requires playmakers, false nine, treq, inside forwards, that sort of thing, so I use two inside forwards on the flanks. I can't expect them to defend, inside forwards are bent on attacking, so I can't use a fluid team shape, which would make them track back, so I use flexible. A DM player will so be needed to help defence, and we have that. Pushing higher up requires offside trap, and allows for more attacking minded midfield, so I gave both my CM's attack duty. DM should ideally be a playmaker with support duty that doesn't roam, so I gave him DLPs role and duty. He will also be used to carry the ball out of defence, which features two CDd-s, which are ideal for keeping possession and offside trap. Sidebacks should be on support duty, and I opted for fullback, since wingbacks are more suited to counter attacking. Speaking of which, I don't want them to counter, and I also don't want players ahead of ball, so I opted for standard mentality, which should suit flexible team shape perfectly.

All of my settings are results of reading this guide: http://www.passion4fm.com/football-playing-styles-tactics-guide/ and this guide: http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/football-manager-2015-tactics/205292-team-shape-roles-duties-guide.html

I switched it up to attacking due to my team being pretty decent, looks to have a great passing play, too many long shots but i can tweaked as needed. So far so good, nice work :)

Well, I lost almost every match, and then went researching around the net to see what tiki taka is about...there's plenty of text about it but very few instructions on how to set it up in game, so I made ver 2, based on what I learned so far...it is nowhere near a finished tactic, and needs much more testing, but I decided to upload it anyway, if anyone is willing to test it. I think I got TI's correctly, and player roles and duties correctly, and my biggest concern is team mentality. It is at contain at the moment, but it is confusing me because I don't know how long defenders pass the ball. Should be more direct the lower the mentality, but since there are no sliders, I have no idea...

First match of the season with ver 3. My team is the worst team of the league in first touch and passing, however me still managed to pull off a victory...ver3 features slightly lower closing down, defensive line and tempo and standard mentality. All is still high...

Next match against Atletico proved that we really aren't fit for this kind of game. We were simply overwhelmed. We still however managed not to conceede in first half, but then took one from a corner in 2nd half and everything went downhill...

Third match, still no changes in tactic, we conceeded but made up for it immediately and eventually won the game. New signing from Barcelona B was man of the match.

Well, I just drew and then lost 3 matches in a row, and stopped and thought about things, and after that changed mentality to attack, and since I really don't need a DM in offside trap defending, moved DM to AMC position, and so gained a 4-2-3-1 Wide formation. Won 2 matches after that change, so I uploaded it as ver 4. This is basically total football, just not taken to an extreme....
