Team used for test: Tottenham; my favourite team and a fairly balanced squad

Formation used: 4141 or 451 (depending how you see it; fairly balancedformation but I mainly wanted a solid formation that can be build an attac. Also one of Tottenhams recommended formations

Player roles: AF, 2 wide mid (a), 1 CM (automatic), 1 CM (a), 1 DM (D), 2 FB (automatic), 2 CD (d) GK (d)

No real thought about this apart from I thought it was fairly balanced. Might try suggested roles if people have any opinions for this formation.

No player instructions, no team instructions and playing automatic result on FMC with no game plan

Very rigid:
Standard 0-1
Contain 1-1
Defensive 1-1
Counter 0-4
Control 2-0
Attack 1-3
Overload 2-1

Best Control and Overload

Rigid:
Standard 1-2
Contain 2-1
Defensive 2-0
Counter 0-1
Control 1-3
Attack 0-4
Overload 0-0

Best Contain, Defensive, Overload (created lots of shots)

Balanced:
Standard 0-1
Contain 1-1
Defensive 2-0
Counter 1-1
Control 0-1
Attacking 1-0
Overload 0-0

Best Defensive, Atacking, Overload (lots of shots)

Fluid:
Standard 1-1
Contain 0-0
Defensive 1-0
Counter 0-1
Control 1-1
Attack 1-0 (1 shot - 1 goal and so wasnt good)
Overload 1-2

Best Defensive

Very Fluid:
Standard 0-4
Contain 0-1
Defensive 1-1
Counter 3-1
Control 0-1
Attack 3-1
Overload 0-1

Best Counter, Attack

What I have seen from this very brief test is that Standard performed poorly throughout, defensive was the best and contain was fairly consistent. Overload seemed to perform better on the more restrictive fluidity and Counter performed well on the most fluid...this probably makes sense as you will need each player to be defensive and attacking for Counter and Overload will push players forward more on more restrictive fluidity but will maybe still keep better shape.

My next stage of testing will be to test the better performing results 3 x to see if there is any consistency. These will include Defensive on all fludity, Contain on all fluidity, Overload on Very rigid and rigid, Control on very rigid, Attacking and Overload on very fluid

Another thing to add is that I'm doing ALL test games against Schalke on a friendly. I'e chosen Schalke as they are fairly even with Spurs

Very Rigid/Defensive:

1st game : 2-1 (Soldado 2)
Shots 15-11
target 5-2
poss 42-58

2nd: 0-1
5-11
2-3
33-67

3rd: 0-2
9-13
2-4
43-57

Rigid/Defensive

1st: 1-1 (Dawson)
6-6
2-3
41-59

2nd: 0-0
13-6
3-2
44-56

3rd: 0-1
8-8
1-2
40-60

Slightly more consistent than the very rigid but struggled for goals, maybe undestandably

Balanced/Defensive

1st: 0-0
8-10
3-2
37-63

2nd: 1-0 (Paulinho)
18-4
5-0
46-54

3rd: 0-4
7-16
2-7
38-62

errrrm last result proving absolutely no consistency

Fluid/Defensive

1st: 0-2
4-13
0-4
38-62

2nd: 2-2 (Lennon, Capoue)
8-16
3-7
36-64

3rd: 1-3 (Capoue)
14-14
3-7
41-59

Consistently poor possession. This would make sense as I'd feel with more fluidity attacking players would be defending more and so reducing the opportunity for an outlet and so creating constant pressure on Spurs. We will see if this stays consistent with Very Fluid

Very Fluid/Defensive

1st: 1-0 (Vertonghen)
3-20
3-5
41-59

2nd: 2-2 (Soldado)
11-5
3-2
44-56

3rd: 1-1 (Townsend)
5-5
3-3
37-63

hmmmmm actually the most consistent as far as results and least consistent as far as the game stats.

I won't bother with Contain as defensive hasn't proved conclusive at all.

Very Rigid/Overload

1st: 1-2 (Townsend)
16-11
4-5
42-58

2nd: 1-1 (Sandro)
14-1
5-1
38-62

3rd: 1-2
10-6
3-3
39-61

Consistently better shots but worse possession

Rigid/Overload

1st: 2-3 (Dembele/Chadli)
15-7
5-5
41-59

2nd: 1-0 (Townsend)
12-4
2-0
39-61

3rd: 0-1
24-10
5-5
42-58

Consisently more shots. Looking at France I would say that this mix could be close to producing their style against Switzerland right now. They overload the box but then get very quickly back in to their defensive positions

Very Fluid/Counter

1st: 0-4

At this point I'm stopping testing as there is absolutely no consistency...1 game you can win 3-1 nd the next lose 4-0 against exactly the same team with the same team and formation

I was enjoying this experiment to be honest.

haha Thank you. It just wasn't bringing any results. I'm not gonna start bashing the ME or anything like that as there are so many factors involved...but it's just hard to find any consistency. The counter attacking summed it up, which is why I stopped. 4-0 win one time and then 4-0 loss the next :p
