Didn't they pay £18m for De Jong in the last year of his contract though?

Still not as insane as 43m for Nasri in his last year of contract.

I do think that 18m for 1 year left is quite ridiculous (Unless it's a player of Messi or Ronaldo's ability), but it's not the same as 40+, that's for sure.

Believe it when I see it. Don't even think Man City are careless enough with money. I will literally have a wank devoted to this transfer if it goes through.

they could have bought flop torres for 50m also.

expect anything ;)

Next season Barça tour China and there's going to be a civil war. Mark my words.

Arsenal's young goalkeeper Damián Martinez has been called up to represent Argentina at the u-20's world cup.

Arsenal pull out of Campbell deal at Gunnerblog

I'm guessing we weren't offering enough money or something. Pretty poor attitude to skip a meeting like that.

It's not the first time it happens - he was on trial twice in Argentina, and didn't sign a contract. This only popped up after his performances at the Copa, and it was said he was not offered a contract. However he was apparently close to a deal with Lyon last year and it ended the very same way - my guess is they have no knowledge of the market and are asking for too much money.

OTOH the link you quoted also links you to a Costa Rican newspaper, in which Campbell's father claims they skipped the meeting because it was too late when they finished their medical and he wanted to talk to his son before discussing a deal, and that he doesn't want him to sign anything before the u-20s WC. It's also claimed it's not money-related, but you can never know for sure.

It might not be, but it just seems weird that in a matter of hours it went from the deal as good as done to them suddenly pulling out.

Been reported that United out-bidded us and Campbell's father is hopeful of a move there.

It started with us offering a 16 year old from Barcelona a contract before he could be offered one from his boyhood club.

near 2003 ? like how we gave hector and tolan the contracts.

Yeah, except that Fabregas was specifically told he wasn't going to get first team chances at Barca. It wasn't just that they were unable to offer him a contract so we gave him a bundle of cash... The "saga" started when they decided they want to re-group the 'lost' La Masia side from the early 2000s (Messi, Cesc, Pique, Valdes, Busquets, etc.) - Fabregas was getting better and better and they now want him back because of some arrogant belief that he belongs to them (like an 8 year old child giving his friend a spade and then deciding he wants it back because he's jealous 20 minutes later).

Guardiola: Arsenal have agreed to negotiate the sale of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona..

Massive blow for Arsenal if true surely..

Also;

STATS: Who Do The Refs Favour? United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea or City?

Wenger's comments about not selling at all is rubbish.

"Negotiate" doesn't mean we've accepted a bid. We've been "negotiating" this whole time - except Barca don't know what that means. They offer half his value and throw their toys out of the pram when we tell them to ****** off.
