Have to say on Alvarez, the kid wanted Arsenal more than Inter but no way was he worth 11.7 million euros...
Only reason Inter paid that much was to use him as a make weight in a Pastore deal, if he was 19 then maybe it would be a reasonable fee for a wonderkid but at 23 Wenger wanted him for 5-6 million euros maximum and Velez upped the price when Zamparini publicly declared he lost out to Arsenal in signing him...Such a...
Every transfer this summer has involved Zamparini in some way shape or form, only reason Inter went in for Alvarez I believe is so they can ship him out to Palermo and get Pastore for 30 million euros. No doubt in my mind he would have been set for Arsenal for 3-5 million euros and even said himself on twitter that he would prefer to move to Arsenal god willing...
Not a huge miss to be honest, do wonders with Palermo next season mind.
News that Savic has signed for City may be yet another blow for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger who was still toying with the idea of making a move for the player, who has
Champions League experience with his former club Partizan Belgrade.
Wenger took Savic on a 10-day trial in January 2010 and had said the youngster should sign a pre-contract agreement before heading back to Belgrade.
But Savic was not a full international at that point and the unlikelihood of getting a work permit, plus some doubts among Arsenal’s coaching staff and the £2.2m asking price, meant it did not happen.
Wenger is understood to have lined up Savic as a possible if his moves for Bolton stopper Gary Cahill fall through – but City stepped in with a £6m deal which could become £9m with increments.
Young Guns Blog said he wasn't overly impressive while with us, so Wenger wasn't too interested.Arsenal could have signed him for 2 Million.

Oh maybe. Few rumors that Wenger went to watch him during France Vs Serbia. Dont know how true it is.
I take it he would've watched his performance as a spectator then, since Savic is a Montenegrin international.
Still no movement on the Arsenal transfer front.. Get's more and more worrying everyday.
Hardly, it's the 7th of July. Plenty of time.
I'd like to have seen a few new players on the Asia tour though.
I'd like to have seen a few new players on the Asia tour though.
think its more likely you will see a few less players on the Asia Tour tbh
So the papers keep telling us. I wonder how stupid the journalists from El Mundo Deportivo, etc. felt when Fabregas turned up for training, and then it came out that he only trained separately because of a tight hamstring when they were reporting from mid-May that he wasn't going to turn up to our first training session and would be revealed as a Barca player on Tuesday...
If Utd/Chelsea/City/Inter/whoever don't cough up £25m for Nasri (which is unlikely to happen before the weekend) and if Barca don't cough up £40m for Fabregas (even less likely to happen before the weekend since they need to sell first) then both players will be on the Asia tour I imagine. If nothing else, for the public attraction and merchandising reasons of having one of the best players in the world with the squad.
Gervinho will be with the rest of the squad, then a couple of young players like Ozyakup (no Lansbury due to U21 duty).
The only club that's made any move for foreign-based players since July 1st is City (Savic). We've signed Gervinho (just the announcement to be made) and seem to have several other targets as well. I'd rather wait for quality players than take a gamble in mid-June for an over-priced U21 English player, personally.
You tried and failed to sign Phil Jones
Yes, and as you may have seen - I was rather glad we didn't sign him, because I don't think he was worth it considering the options we already have for his position, at his age =)
except, like with Samba, Cahill he would compliment Verlmaelen and cover the aerial weakness, he is also one of the few defenders comfortable on the ball, even Wenger knew this, hence why he was willing to spend so much on him
I'm not saying he's not a good player, I'm simply saying that I'm glad we didn't sign him because I'd rather give Bartley a chance than what IMO would be a waste of about half our budget.
Not sure Cahill would compliment Vermaelen, I see him as his back-up. Hence why I'd rather have Jagielka/Samba - both more experienced (undoubtedly what we need, not a player who was part of a Bolton capitulation and is the same age as both our current first-choice CBs), neither particularly likely to try anything risky.
I see Cahill, like Vermaelen, as a ball-playing CB to borrow an FM term. Koscielny and Djourou are more like covering CBs, although Kos can also play the Vermaelen role. Samba/Jagielka, although not the quickest, aren't the sort of players to come out of defence ad are both pretty strong in the air (Samba more so).
Depending on who we sign, as we may well go for Cahill, I think we'll set up with Vermaelen and Koscielny/Djourou first choice and then depending on injuries/suspension/opposition, Koscielny will be first choice cover for Vermaelen and to add some aerial prowess, x new CB will step into the RCB slot - no nonsense, covering the area behind Kos. Although again, it depends on the opposition - Koscielny and Djourou were so good for most of the season that Wenger may well see that as the second, or even first choice defensive partnership against most opposition. He's not naive enough to ignore teams who are strong and are likely to score from set-pieces so they won't generally be paired up against say Stoke or Blackburn.
nonetheless, I think the problem with set-pieces isn't individual players being weak in the air, but poor defensive organisation coming from the tactics. It's the set-up, rather than the players at fault IMO.
its a bit of both, It was actually Kolo who so good at your aerial clearances. Whoever comes in (I think Samba is the better option) will start. Bartley isnt close to Jones yet, think Wenger knows that otherwise he wouldnt have even considered 16m
