My predicted team for this season:

Szczesny
Sagna Jagielka/Dann Vermaelen Gibbs
Wilshere Song
Walcott Ramsey/Mata Gervinho
van Persie

Which is why I'm confused as to why we weren't in for Enrique.

Yeah didnt undertstand that myself, unless he has a another target, but havent heard anything. Enrique would have been ideal

Cissoko (however you spell it) from Lyon would be a good replacement aswell. Let's hope Gibbs doesn't get injured again and again during this season, and maybe we'll see how good he actually is.

Maybe after Cesc leaves Ramsey will show what he is actually capable of, but I hope we don't lose Nasri and he signs a contract as i don't see anyone in the squad who can replace him, apart from maybe Wilshere.

And unfortuantly, we still haven't lost the players who are let downs. Denilsons on loan to Sao Paulo, but Rosicky, Sqillachi, Bentdhner, Eboue, Diaby etc. Arshavin should stay one more season to show his worth, as he is a good player tbh.

Nasri is less of a loss if you replace him with Mata, that would be an improvement

Song Ramsey and Wilshire as a midfield three, with Gervinho, RVP and Walcott/Chamberlain/Arshavin/etc as a front three is actually quite mouth watering. So much pace and movement, and despite youth, a lot of premier league experience.

The back 5 is where big changes are required, with (providing theres enough cash) a marquee midfield/forward signing to ease the blow of losing Nasri and Fabregas.

Might as well buy Vertonghen instead

Jags
Samba
Vertonghen
Cahill
Dann

In terms of quality? Or suitability? Agree if it's the latter...

Quality I'd go:

Cahill
Jagielka
Vertonghen? (I can't really say - I've never seen him play properly)
Dann/Samba

My predicted team for this season:

Szenchzy
Sagna Samba/Jagilka Vermaelen Gibbs
Wilshere Song
Gervinho Ramsey Nasri/Mata
van Persie

That has to be the worst spelling attempt at Szczesny I've ever seen. ;) You're worse than Calum!

OK - that was harsh. But it was awful!

My predicted team for this season:

Szczesny

Wilshere Song
Walcott Ramsey/Mata Gervinho
van Persie

More realistic I think. Although I'd probably have Gervinho/Mata instead of Ramsey/Mata. Think Walcott will (rightly) get chances on the right again, and Gervinho's work-rate could be a huge difference down the left, especially with Gibbs there (meaning our left side will be targeted even more)

Yeah didnt undertstand that myself, unless he has a another target, but havent heard anything. Enrique would have been ideal

Apparently we wanted to make a last minute/late bid for Izaguirre? But obviously that fell through when he got injured. Jheez - players are so selfish nowadays!

Wilshere isn't a wide-forward. Nasri isn't a CM (at least not in the Arsenal set-up).

We don't have a like-for-like replacement for Nasri ready. We have plenty of wide forwards, but not like him - a player who can create, and also score goals. Gervinho's kppg was even less than Nasri's last season, but Mata would definitely help solve that IMO.

Why didn't he choose #1 then? Instead he went for Jens' number last season - 13.

Nasri and Fabregas out.

Scott Dann and Jadson in?

We are in **** creak.

Also to note, Arsenal have called a press conference at and earlier time of 9AM tomorrow morning.

Arsenals Midfield and Forwards are quite strong imo... obviously I am saying this on the basis that Nasri and Fabregas stay but it has always been the defence that has let Arsenal down, if Wenger can bring in a good LB and CB along with a quality forward then Arsenal will confirm their credentials as Title Challengers

Someone like:

Scott Dann
Cissokho
Mata

Would be fantastic signings and show intent

Jags/Samba/Vertonghen
Cissokho
Mata

Wenger needs to make those happen.

+ Joel Campbell who is essentially an Arsenal player.

Hazard picking up rumours again. Mata apprantly will be announced when Cesc/Nasri leave. Keep dreaming.

Another plug for my (our/AR's) interview with Young Guns Blog editor Jamie Sanderson. We talked tactics, scouting, and asked how our academies compare to the likes of West Ham, plus much more!

Now that's over with - my take on the LB situation.

I maintain that although Clichy, Gibbs, Traore haven't been the best LBs anyway, a key reason why they've struggled at times is because of a lack of support form players further forward. Wilshere can only sweep the left wing off the ball so much, and he isn't really a defensive player. I think Gervinho's presence could make a marked difference - Gibbs can have more confidence that he'll get support, and can go forward knowing that his back's covered. Unlike when Arshavin played.

Don't think Hazard is a genuine rumour - seems just to be twitter deciding who it would like to replace Cesc/Nasri and collating rumours from that.

True, although Mata and Hazard as replacements would be ideal, although it would NEVER happen.

Couldn't care less on who we bring in upfront or in midfield. Sort out the defence and and if our team stopped passing around like a bunch of idiots and actually attacked the opposition with quick passing and counterattacks we might actually win some games.

The most frustrating thing for me over recent years of watching arsenal along with the poor defending is the lack of counterattacks. We did it in our prime when we were the invincibles, **** we were probably the scariest team to face when teams thought about our pace and counter-attacking. But all we do now once the opposition attacks us is get the ball quickly up the field and then sit on it until they get 11 men behind the ball so we can commence our famous "sideways passing" usually courtesy of denilson.

What good is having one of the fastest front lines/wingers in the league if the don't even run past the opposition D area.

And here's me thinking Arsenal still carve teams open at will. Arsenals passing game isnt the problem here

Ryo, Alex, Gervinho, Theo. Quick players for counter-attacks aren't the problem, this has been addressed.

Sell Samir and Cesc. Buy one/two replacements. A CB, LB and a DM.

At will? man city Put 11 men behind the ball, stoke put 11 men behind the ball and still outplayed us. We used to outpass, outplay, and attack with so much purpose our passing game was praised and it still got the results.

Purposefull attacking followed up by a solid defence, does it sound familiar? It's what champions do, what we did in our glory days, what the current champions are doing, and what needs to be looked at also with our beyond dodgy defence. You would have thought the only person capable of long shots in our team were rvp and rosicky, it's painful to see the 50 passes followed by nothing.

You're missing my point. I know we have the players that have the pace, but the fact of the matter is that we rarely counter attack in our current system. We've always had quick players, and its one of the reasons why I was so happy when denilson was removed from the team late last season. Aimless passing with little intent was decreased by 60% when he was removed.
