At will? man city Put 11 men behind the ball, stoke put 11 men behind the ball and still outplayed us. We used to outpass, outplay, and attack with so much purpose our passing game was praised and it still got the results.

Purposefull attacking followed up by a solid defence, does it sound familiar? It's what champions do, what we did in our glory days, what the current champions are doing, and what needs to be looked at also with our beyond dodgy defence. You would have thought the only person capable of long shots in our team were rvp and rosicky, it's painful to see the 50 passes followed by nothing.

I think you have not fully understood the term "outplayed". We were not outplayed by Man City or Stoke City. How can a team that put 11 men behind the ball outplay another team? Counter-attacking football is not outplaying another team. It's a tactic used by many and works effectively against us due to our poor defensive positioning and lack of back-tracking wingers. An example of us being outplayed would have been the second leg Vs Barca.

You are essentially saying that Man City outplayed Man U at the weekend? That's just stupid.

wow, two games means it doesnt work then? Nonsense. What kills arsenal is the way they collapse, and the errors at centreback. Could do with more longshots, but that is just tweaking. The issue is the defence.

If they dug in, how did they outplay you?

Also counterattacking fails against a team that doesnt attack,

You're missing my point. I know we have the players that have the pace, but the fact of the matter is that we rarely counter attack in our current system. We've always had quick players, and its one of the reasons why I was so happy when denilson was removed from the team late last season. Aimless passing with little intent was decreased by 60% when he was removed.

How can we play Counter-attacking football when we control the ball for most of the game?

I think you are trying to say we should try and play more direct?

Well maybe if you actually read what I said. I didn't say man city outplayed us, I said stoke did. And if I recall you can outplay a team even if you don't have high possession. What you are talking about is out passing, which we do on a regular basis to most teams with ease (not including barca). To out play a team can mean to simply be better than them in the majority of departements on the field. Defending well, with little trouble, making incisive passing and being more direct with your play having an end product. Always looking threatening on the ball no matter how long you actually hold the ball for.

Never once did I say it doesn't work. We are a top 6 team in the prem for a reason, the way we play and the quality we have. Not essentially, You can't score if you don't attack. There is always a chance or option to counter attack in the prem.

Well Yes, we need to be more direct with our passing.
More like this

With a solid defence, and then we can talk about competing for trophies.

We don't NEED to be more direct with our passing, we need to sort our defensive performances out.

We can win things with our current passing style if we weren't so **** at the back at times.

We need a leader, like Viera was during the invinicbles or how Campbell lead the defence during that time.

Unusually, on FM all Arsenal players seem to have a determined mentality, in real life, I don't see the determination.

Thiago has taken #11. Vacated #4.. I dont know the reason why he did though ;)

And Joss, is it safe to say that 10 year plan didn't work or there was no such thing only created by some blogger?

Erm, firstly - "some blogger" = Ix, my co-writer.

Secondly - because Cesc might leave, that means the 10 year plan has failed?

Wenger to Kicker: ''I already have 4 CBs I don't want anymore.'' Paraphrased but that's the jist... *Sigh*

Fab was the key part isn't it.. How many players have left who were supposed to be part of the plan..

Sorry I didn't know who was that..

Not sure if its failing, but its certainly stuttering badly

It's not about Cesc. It's about general youth development and sustainable management. Cesc was part of wave 1, and yes - lots of players have left, but lots more have stayed. Djourou, Walcott, Mannone, Vela, Traore, Song, etc.

Not that old, it's within the past 10 days...

It's an outdated quote, Jamie. Also goes against what Gazidis has said in the past week.

It hasn't been ten years... oO)

This.

If all goes to plan, then the 10 year plan should kick in by about 2012/13. That doesn't mean we have to wait until then for trophies, but it's when the first couple of waves will be reaching their peak with a solid group of young players able to challenge for a first team spot without being too inexperienced. Like Frimpong, Bartley, Afobe are trying to do now.

I was never convinced by that blog.. Many players have left and few are just not good enough..

Will wait and see how it works. Till date I haven't seen anything that suggests it will change in the future..

Well at least you're honest, I suppose. Not going to be for everyone.

You are right.. Few or many wont be convinced by that blog.. Saying that I never criticized Wenger and never will in the near future. Like I said I dont buy those 10 year plans but the work he has done is superb.

Kicker are hardly a tabloid and the journalist hasn't made it up. The way the piece is written suggests to me the quotes are recent. Just my opinion, it seems weird but the context suggests to me it's recent.
