so much for PL proven...

Stop ******* moaning Calum. Arsenal can't do anything right in your book.

You know perfectly well that he's looking at experienced PL CBs. There's 2 and a half weeks of the window left. We're allowed to watch players outside of England, you know.

Milan Vilotic? Never heard him of myself, but I'm sure he's capable if we need to go there. I still expect us to sign a CB before the window, hopefully one of Wenger's primary targets from the PL. I get the feeling that unless we sign 11 Sambas, Calum won't be happy ;)

Heard Neil Danns was in talks with Arsenal?

No idea pistol. Not heard about that, but I've got largely bored of checking the ITKs on twitter - Tim Payton is amazingly annoying in particular (not an ITK, but head of the AST)

Vilotic? then perhaps Calum may be right to moan, up and coming good young defender, drawing favorable comparisons to Vidic, questionable as to whether he should be signed as a first choice partner to TV5 though

The article does say he's not Wenger's first choice target. To be fair I think we'd be fine with Vermaelen and Koscielny as our first choice CBs. Djourou just needs confidence to get back to his best as well - he was excellent for most of last season. But Squillaci is awful, and that's my main fear. Cover. You look at Utd and they have incredible 'strength in depth' (God I hate Hansen) - we simply don't have that. Squillaci played 32 times last season ffs.

Anything that means Squillaci plays less (or never again) is OK by me!

You mean Scott Dann

Reaction to possible Dann talks is mixed among AFC fans. At least on twitter it is. Half of them say he's good enough, and Brum's performances with and without him show how good he is - also that he's 'no nonsense' and wears his heart on his sleeve and blah-de blah.

Other half says Scott Dann wouldn't be the most encouraging signing in the wake of Cesc and Nasri's possible exits.

I'm somewhere between. But at least he's proven in the PL, and is a CB. Good enough for me if we don't have anyone else by 23.59 on August 31..

Apparently Walcott misses out on Starting XI today.

Arshavin - RVP - Gervinho is front 3. Koscielny starting CB with Vermaelen too.

Would really prefer Walcott to start over Arshavin in this game. Oh well.

ARSENAL: Szczesny; Sagna, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Gibbs; Song, Rosicky; Gervinho, Ramsey, Arshavin; van Persie.

Centreback for me is the one key area Wenger needs to solve, for me it has to be Jag/Samba/Vertonghen. In a league where the smallest margins can be decisive, one of these 3 could make the difference between nearly run and a real title challenge, even a trophy.

It will be about fitness I imagine. Wenger might not want to risk him with Udinese mid-week and a big month ahead.
