The Away Stand

First of all, Hi guys, it has been a while :)

TheAwayStand.co.uk is a football manager discussion website that has now been running for around two years. Here, we focus on not only discussion, but bringing you top quality content and also downloadables.

We have plenty of top content at the moment on TAS but to just show you a glimpse, here is a draft of our newsletter:

Firstly, we hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year!

Secondly, there's a few bits and pieces going on at TAS we thought worth highlighting, so in our first newsletter of 2012 we've selected a few of the best bits from TAS in recent days.

Our first news worthy item is the TAS Player Role Calculator. This tool allows you to enter your player's attributes and be told which roles he best fits in to. This is a free application that works just as well on Windows or Mac OS X.

Our newest staff member Rico has announced TASlantis, a chance to compete against other forum members and prove once and for all who is the best manager. Spaces are limited, so if you wish to partake, please fill out the form at the link below.

Next up we have a chance for you to win yourself either £20 in Amazon vouchers or £20 Steam credit in the TAS Predictor. If you reckon you could give Mark Lawrenson a run for his money and predict the scores, enter now. The predictor runs for 9 weeks and the first set of fixtures need to be submitted by January 7th, so hurry and make your predictions.

It's a trip to the training fields next as Foxo posted a detailed thread on training, releasing his own schedules based on player roles rather than natural positions. They are still in the testing phases but early results have shown a lot of promise. If you'd like to test them out and help Foxo improve them it would be much appreciated. Proof of their effectiveness so far is in the thread too.

Staying on the subject of tactics & training we'd like to highlight a guide from Manno all about Defensive Midfielders. As well as being a great guide there's also good discussion that follows it so if you've been considering implementing a DM into your site, you'd be mad to miss this.

If you're after more tactical goodness, BWP covers everything you could ever want to know about the Trequartisa and how to use one on Football Manager to full effect:

And finally llama3 discusses the Register (or Deep Lying Playmaker) and how they can be used to provide a steady supply of chances:

To end off this newsletter we just want to say a special thank you & goodbye to The Pioneer, who stepped down from his staff role last week.

Remember you can always find out the latest from TAS on our Twitter feed, @theawaystand.

I would be delighted if some of you could take a look around, share a few opinions and it would not hurt to sign up. Who knows, you might like it?

Thanks for reading

I would be grateful of any response. Cheers :)

Thanks pal, let me know what you think :D

I will only click the link if I know NUFC TONY is an admin.... so is he!?

I like the name :) also like some of the more creative names for threads (e.g. 'The Drunken Clam') any intention on making more sections (similar to base) or no? Skin is easy on the eye. I think it's a pretty good forum but I won't sign up, 1 FM forum is enough for me :) but looks good and luck in the future

Thanks Jak. No, no current plans to make any more sections as we are no-where near as big as base.

Sorry Joe, Tony is not an admin :)

The forums look nice and tidy but the main page looks horrible. I'm no expert but it would put me off right away.

Looks nice. I'll have a look around it. Might end up, signing up :)

The mainsite looks cheap, and I don't like the colour scheme, but the articles are good.

Thanks Kris and the main page is something we are looking at sorting out once we have increased activity again.

Thanks a lot mate, I hope you do :)

As I said to Kris, the mainsite is being looked at. As for the colour scheme, I like it, must be, I think it is something of personal preference to be honest.

Thought I might aswell sign up. Wont be active on it as much as Base but i will be on quite a bit like that forum I was signed up to that you was on before Dan. Not sure if you remember but I remember you doing an Atletico Madrid story on that site aswell as this one :)

Yep, it was called Football Manager First Team but has since died. This is where I spend most of my time now, at TAS. Glad to see you join up, please introduce yourself :)

To everyone who criticised the main site, it is being reviewed and changed tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions. Any more opinions?

The main site looks like it wants to give me a virus. However, at least you actually have your own domain, better than 95% of FM forums already.

Also, don't bump, Dan (:

Yeah, as I said, the main site is being changed. But thanks for the comment mate. Anyone else have any opinions? Sorry for the shameless bump :P

Just wanna say, I've been at TAS a month, maybe a little longer. Everyone's made me feel really welcome and at the moment the site is really booming. Really, guys, come join, it's quite brilliant.

Thanks for that Aussie. The mainsite has now been improved and looks a lot better than it was :)
