FIRST MATCH: MAN CITY - AWAY

STARTING VERSION: 7.DEFENSIVE

In this match, I considered us lucky if we could steal a point as the opposition is superior. My choices here where 5.Balanced, 6.Counter or 7.Defensive and as I had no idea how they would play, high d-line, low d-line aggressive, no aggressive, I considered that the version 6.Counter could backfire. Now the choices where down to 5: Balanced or 7.Defensive and as I wanted to get a draw, not a win, a chose 7.Defensive

They only got close to scoring on some corners. We scored 1-0 in the first half and we won very comfortable. When they subbed Adebayor for Zabaleta, switching position on Zabaleta and Robinho, I reloaded the tactic to be sure that the marking did not go awole and we saw the game out without them having a single CCC´S in the whole game

2ND MATCH: BURNLEY - AWAY

STARTING VERSION: 5. BALANCED

Just like in the previous game, I had no idea on how they would play but my guess – based on experience from previous FM-editions on how teams play early in the season – was that they where going for the 3 points. There for, I chose 5.Balanced as it’s a very stable version

We dominated the game pretty much but they played compact with lots of men behind the ball. In the 18th minutes, I switched to 4.Attack away; the reason? – I wanted to be more attacking and by playing slower and more patient lure them up in the field. It only took us 3 minutes to score and it was very clear that it had to do with the version change as we – for the first time – managed to stretch their defence sideways AND lure a DC up fields

After the goal, they raised their d-line –setting it to normal – and pushed up their fullbacks, playing down the flanks. Si now I switched back to 5.Balanced and tweaked our Fullbacks to stay back

In the second half nothing happens until they went more attacking in the 65th minutes. Then I switched to 6.Counter to be able to score 2-0 and close out the game. We had 2 good chances but as we failed to score, I switched to 7.Defensive in the 80th minutes to see the game out.

Their only CCC´S sand 2 shots on goal came from a scramble after a corner

CUPMATCH: BARNSLEY - AWAY

STARTING VERSION: a tweaked ATTACK HOME

Before the game, I was choosing between either 2.Control or 4.Attack away but as the weather forecast said it was going to rain, I chose the more direct Attack Home and played more direct instead (i.e. I tweaked the passing settings). As results of playing quick and direct, I also let the fullback stay back as they would not have time be involved in the attack anyway

We scored 1-0 after 1 minute after putting in a cross from byline and it was clear that they could not cope with us overloading the flanks and penalty area

After 25 minutes they raised their d-line, pushing it up really high and started to attack us As our team seemed to show complacency, I reverted to 6.Counter as I was pretty sure I would hit them on the counter and get such clear cut chances that the complacency would not matter

After having had 3 good attacks our Goalie Green came out to pick an easy cross l but missed the ball by 2 yards (it looked really funny) .1-1

In the 2nd half I switched to 5.Balanced as it had stopped raining and we dominated the game and after our FCright (Cole had scored 3 goals I had 2 choices

- make some subbed a use 7.Defensive
- or remove the TM and using the DMC as a playmaker when switching to Control

I chose Control but since I had not seen that it had starting raining heavily again it backfired. Complacency (i.e. no movement or closing down) + rain + short passing in a slow tempo is a disaster and I switched to defensive after they had scored twice
In the end we won 4-3 but the lesson here is to never underestimate teams in the Championship, especially not when playing away to them

3RD MATCH: BOLTON - HOME[

STARTING VERSION: 3.ATTACK HOME

Here, my choice was between either 4.Attack Home and 4.Attack away but as they where playing a 4141, using a DMC, it would not have succeeded in luring them up in the so 3.Attack Home it was

Once again, we scored 1-0 after only minutes, cross into the box. We had 2 more excellent chances to score but as the minutes went buy, we lost out in possession. In the 25th minute, I switched to 4.Attack away to regain it. I also set one of the DC´s to man mark their lone FC so he would not be left alone between our DC´s in our wildish approach

The 2nd half was really a matter of seeing out the game. Bolton did not create anything and neither did we. They played direct balls onto their Fc but as I had him on heavy OI´s (marking tightly, close down always, hard tackle and weaker foot); he missed out on every ball. In the 69th minute we scored from a freekick making it 2-0. I then switched to 7.defensive, using a playmaker (the DMC) instead of a target man. This I did because otherwise, the FCleft (the TM) would be closed down by their DMC in this version.

I then had my DL sent off after getting 2 yellow cards, so I subbed the FCL and put his replacement as DL. Only 2 minutes later they go a man sent off as well: D

We won 2-0 but have a look at the stats, perhaps we should have used Control with man-marking ?

4TH MATCH: EVERTON - AWAY

STARTING VERSION: 7.DEFENSIVE

Here, I chose between Balanced and Defensive as I wanted to keep possession and due to the fact that they have a much better team than we do. I think you will see that we initially will play rather cautious when on the road

Ha, we scored after 21 seconds. They got a couple of corners and after the 3rd one they scored from the scramble in the box and in the 42 minute, they scored from a 40-yard screamer that my backup GK should have saved. But it could have been a punishment for not closing down their AMC properly. Even though he was shooting from a long distance, he had too much time on the ball

At half time I switched to 4.attack away and had a couple of chances but as I failed to score, I switched to 3.Attack Home. I was punished only after 2 minutes when they scored form a dodgy one-on-one offside-goal: D

Cole missed a couple of one-on-ones (not a defender on sight but not considered a CCC´S?). In the end they won 3-1 and perhaps we should have switched to counter straight after scoring 1-0?

All 3 goals scored by Everton came from none dangerous situations. Ina a way, we where unlucky to conceded them but at the am time we could have lost 6-1 if they had scored from their CCC´s ;)

I've downloaded the 442. And have had good results. But I have trouble picking the right tactic för the right game or the right situation. Often I just guess and hope for the best. I usually start with Balanced at home, ant Defense away. And then I try to change deppending on woh the match go.

I would really love a guide in how to pick the right tactic. Some basic guidlines.

So far the tactic-set has worked good. Better then any tactic I've made my self or downloaded. But I'm sure it would work great, if I only hade a better understanding of witch tactic to choose...

Anyway. Great work TBH! I'm very impressed with al the work you've done! :-)

:-)

The basic guidlines is found in the OP but one basci hint is to look on how aggresive the Ai is in their closing down and how high/low up on the field they actually close down. Bit the most important part is to understand the difference between the different versions. what makes attack away different from balanced, what makes control different from attack home

Control vs Attack home

- Control is to lure an very defensive team ( non attacking, deep d-line, compact) up in the field and strecth their defence. This version does not provide you with many chances but they are oftenly on goal and - most importantly - results in a very clear cut chance, with the converter not being under stress.

- Attack Home is basiclly against the same team but when they are playing with counter attack and slightly more agrressiv, not sitting witg all men behind the ball

Attack away vs - Balanced

lets start with balanced first

- Balanced is for a more cautoius approach with restrive t-balls to keep possesion. This works like a charm against either inferior teams trying to attack you as we lure their differnt strats out of position, one by one. t also works good against a team trying to strectch our defence

- Attack away is against the same team that now sits slightly deeper with their attackers not tracking back. now we are in possession higher up in the field an use the width and flanks to stretch their defence. If balanced gave you possession but perhaps too muich, not creatinhg anything dangerous, then this is the version to use

Counter vs Balanced

- Counter is to be used when they are attakcing with the whole team and havng a average to pushed up d.line, their fullbacks making runs down the flanks. here is our chance to hit them on the break using amore direct and quick approach. If they starts to sit back, using their balanced or defensive, then we will be vunerable as we will loose out in possession when having men storming forward

- defensive then, well its against teams playing a very attakcing appraoch but on the counter, juist like in the opposit scenario above, we will now gain the possession. Against team playing a slowich but yet attakcing footbacll, using their control, then its better to use balanced

could you upload your game?

Did you also get given 43m to spend on transfers mid-season?

Cant recall the exact sum but I had a board take over and bought Milevskyi and together with Ashton back after injury, they made a lethal partnership up front

could you upload your game?

I tend to keep my saves for myself, sorry

hi TBH what do u think about the possibility to import the team settings and the player setting into a wizard formation??? for example, this r the settings in the wizard for the 4-4-2 TM from the appendix of the TT&F

Goalkeeper Defend
Full Back Automatic
Centre Back Cover
Limited Defender Stopper
Full Back Automatic
Winger Attack
Ball-Winning Midfielder Defend
Box-to-Box Midfielder Support
Winger Attack
Target Man Support
Poacher Attack

Philosophy Very Rigid
Passing More Direct
Creative Freedom Default
Closing Down Press More
Tackling More Aggressive
Marking Default
Crossing Default
Roaming Default

I was thinking to set the different versions of the wizard following yr 6 versions, the same for the players role (also if in yr 4-4-2 TM the 2 Centre Back have the same setting, and in the wizard they r different).

Do you think it will work???
