Bruce completes Summer signings

Steve Bruce has completed his summer spending by adding 4 new players

The first of his signings is Jermaine Jenas on loan with a view to a £2,900,000 move afterwards, Jermaine is a attacking minded midfield player with an eye for goal but is also very good at defending.

Artem Milevskyi has signed on a loan deal. There is no permament arangement fee in place but could be agreed depending on the Ukrainian's performances. Milevskyi will have to battle for his place up front with Gyan, Bent and Welbeck also pushing for a starting place,.

The next and last two signings are the £3,200,000 move of Guillermo Ochoa from America (MEX) , he is a superb goalkeeper and to get him so cheap is a bargain for the club. And the £950,000 deal to bring Huddersfield's Alex Smithies to the club , he is also a very good goalkeeper and one day will be England's number one.

Pre season

Sunderland 4 - 0 Rochdale

18' Bent
34' Milevskyi
74' Gyan

85' Edwads (OG)

Premier League kicks off !

Sunderland's Premier League campaign kicked off with a home game against Wigan , The first half had no real chances for either team but the only real chance fell to Sunderland's Darren Bent who took on two players and smashed the shot onto the post. Things picked up when in the 68th minute Artem Milevskyi took it past Charles N'Zogbia but got caught and earned a penalty, Milevskyi stepped up and placed the penalty into the bottom right of the net, 5 minutes later Gyan ran through and played the ball through to Lee Cattermole who was about to tap it in but Steven Caldwell took him down, Milevskyi stepped up and scored his second of the game. In the 78th minute Wigan stepped up the pressure and that finally payed off as Hugo Rodallega scored a diving header to get them back into the game, but the game finished 2-1 .

The 2nd match of the season was a tricky one, Newcastle at home , so many fans relied on us to win and we started on the back foot. Titus Bramble did a terrible back pass what Lovenkrands latched onto and slotted it past Ochoa , 1-0 Newcastle after only 7 minutes, we then got a response two minutes later as we earned a free kick 20 yards out, Boudewijn Zenden stepped up and curled it into the top right hand corner, 1-1 9 minutes played. Both teams slowed down the pace and at Half Time it was 1-1 , Again we started on the back foot and in the 63rd minute Newcastle were playing dome brilliant football and Kevin Nolan finished it of with a powerful strike . We pushed to get a response but it wouldn't come , Bramble had a shot cleared off the line and well it was only Harper keeping Newcastle in the game, but in the 86th minute Bent crossed it in and Kieran Richardson headed it in from 4 yards out, 2-2 the final score.

Our third game was our hardest yet away at Goodison Park to play Everton. There was only a few chances in the first half, the majority falling to Yakubu and Tim Cahill of Everton as the both hit the woodwork, The second half was pretty much the same only a few chances this time to us but Howard made some exceptional saves, but in the 87th minute Artem Milevskyi played through Darren Bent who took it around Howard in goal and slotted in in , 1-0 Sunderland, thats how it stayed for the rest of the match. A valuable three points today.

We were away at Chesterfield in the League Cup today, i hadn't put our strongest team out but it wasn't weak . We were all over them to be honest ad in the 19th minute Danny Welbeck on his debut opened the scoring with a volley from Asamoah Gyan's cross. Then in the 29th minute Welbeck returned the favour as he ran straight through the defence and squared the ball for Gyan to score, 2-0 Sunderland. Just 11 minutes later we again were on the attack , Welbeck played through Richardson who crossed and Talbot cleared for Chesterfield but it only wen't as far as the right boot of Lee Cattermole as he brought it down and smashed it into the top left hand corner, 3-0 after 40 minutes. We wen't into half time brimming with confidence, i mad a few changes, Bent for Gyan , Henderson for Jenas and Richardson for Riveros , we started attacking from the off and in the 49th minute Bent played it across to Henderson who played a magnificent through ball to Welbeck to score his second of the night. We calmed down from then on and the game finished 4-0 Sunderland .
