Van Ginkel's a versatile player, as are Essien, De Bruyne and Ramires. Of those lot, only Mikel, Lampard and De Rossi are specialist deep-lying midfielders, and even then it's not Lampard's best position. Theoretically, you could field nearly all of them in the same team - Mikel deep, De Rossi the link man, Lampard at the tip of a triangle, Van Ginkel wide left, Ramires wide right, Essien at right back and De Bruyne on the bench.

But my point is if you want to challenge on all fronts you need a deep squad, and getting rid of Mikel after all these years of his development is nonsensical. I'd definitely keep him considering you'll be trying to win every competition you're in.
 
Yea, you're not really that stacked. Lampard, Mikel, De Rossi would be best in the in the pivot, Hazard, Schurrle, Oscar, De Bruyne, Mata would be best somewhere in the offensive trio. Essien, Ramires and are versatile, I'm not that familiar with Van Ginkel.

So that's what, 11 players for 5 positions? That's more or less what you should aim at.
 
Some Arsenal fan said he thought Arsenal would have a better squad if they bought a defensive midfielder and a striker.. I don't agree with him at all but maybe I'm bias. When I began to think of it I actually found comparing the two quite interesting.

So I realise this is the Chelsea thread but what would a neutral opinion be?
 
As long as Arsenal also buys new goalkeeper, two new fullbacks, two offensive midifielders and 5 solid bench players - sure.
 
De Bruyne is looking at a full game atm, Jose said he was going to start and feature in the second half but dont know how long for.
 
Surely it's bullshit we are willing to let Mata join utd so we can bring in Rooney.
 
Mourinho always like to put a stamp on his squad, for good or bad. Maybe he doesn't see the real need for Mata as you have Oscar specifically who can play that position. As well as secondary position players like Hazard, Schurrle, Lampard etc etc. You certainly don't lack for that area.
 
If that is true, about Mata, just imagine the disappointment the little guy will feel. Seriously. Arguably the most loved Chelsea player currently and the best one we've had in that position in ages and the stupid people who run the club are willing to let him go? And go to United?

How the **** is this happening? How the **** did we even let the rumour begin let alone anything more than that. How.

Anyways it was a false alarm, statement from the club confirms no players were included as part of the deal
 
Haha seriously as i seem to keep saying especially this window english football journalism is an embarrassment to this country! If we did (which we didn't) offer Mata plus 10 million Utd would have bitten our hands off. Not even going into the point that Mata in this day and age is worth more than Rooney!
 
Mourinho even mentioned that Mata was the only player at his disposal who was left-footed and could play on the right. So it's not like Jose didn't have a role planned for him in his 4-3-3

It's not to do with the quality of journalism for once. You're accusing us of leaking it to the press that you were offering Mata.
