Pretty sure Vidic has never got a red card actually against Torres himself. The closest he came was in 2008 or so when Masch got sent off and Vidic spent the entire match bundling Torres over, and his worst performance against him was in that 4-1 where he got sent off (not for a foul on Torres though). The whole "Vidic is **** against Torres" is mostly because Vidic was playing against the best player of a style that he was weakest against. Now, Torres isn't that kind of off-the-shoulder poacher because he doesn't have the pace. Ergo, using him against Vidic wouldn't have any kind of greater effect. Vidic doesn't have an inferiority complex, he's ******* Nemanja Vidic.
Using Schurrle made a lot of sense when you get deeper into it, as he's the player who's most like what Torres used to be in Chelsea's team.
