Hazard will be back for return leg surely, Eto'o also loves scoring at Bridge, hopefully he'll be fit. We can nick one early on and then do what we did, park the tankers!

Oh right, because Chelsea is a little horsie, rite?

2nd team in the EPL doesn't even field more then two attacking players , what a ******* embarrasment.

Well Torres is a striker, Willian an attacking midfielder, Lampard and Ramires box to box midfielders and Luiz plays where he wants to play so that's 5 players who like to get forward already. Then again i guess we could always play on the attack and get opened up time and time again.

Whats that no Terry,Lampard,Cech and Mikel possibly for the 2nd leg.

I got a feeling JT will be back for it, but the rest are all out which is a massive blow.

I agree you need to adapt, you cant always be entertaining but this sort of football does leave a bad taste in your mouth. So poor to watch

It leaves a bad taste when you don't support that club yeah, when your Chelsea you know this is the way which gets up everyones noses and the way teams find hard to beat. At the end of the day all that matter is that you win it not how you win it and that's the Chelsea way. You have to understand that Chelsea went 30 years without any silverware and just because we have had quite a bit in the last 10 years doesn't mean we are bored of it, we love every ounce of silverware that comes our way regardless of how its won and i personally think that's the way it should be.

Having had to dash off to work straight after the game and only finishing now (7 in the morning) i didn't have much time to let it all sink in.

I initially predicted a 2-1 Atletico win but as soon as i saw both line-ups i quickly changed my prediction to a drab 0-0 draw and i'm not too disappointed with that. I saw a lot of frustration with the line-up from opposing and even our own fans for playing too many defensive minded players. But what do you want us to do? Play a predominately attacking line-up away at the best team in Spain this season? They would have wiped the floor clean with us we all know that, at least this way we are still in the tie.
I just saw a stat on SkySports which showed that in the last 13 first legs which have ended 0-0 on 10 occasions the away team in the second leg goes through. But what these stats don't take into count is they are talking about Chelsea! Do i think Atletico will score at the Bridge? Yes i think they probably will because i think we will be more attacking and leave more space for them to run into. But would i back us to score twice? Yes again especially if our home boy Eto'o is fit, Hazard back fit and Ba in half decent form.

Obviously the biggest loss last night was Petr Cech and it just had to happen in the game where OUR keeper was in the net at the other end didn't it! He will be a monumental miss especially if we get to the final. I personally wouldn't be surprised to see JT the bionic man lead the team out next Wednesday for the 2nd leg and both Lampard and Mikel (Mikel was sensational last night, these games are tailor made for him) will be huge losses as we are already without Matic for Champions League games it looks as if it may have to be Luiz and Ramires.

Now the conundrum to what we do on Sunday? Do we do a proper full rest therefore guaranteeing Liverpool the title but also giving us a better shot at the Champions League? Its a noodle scratcher because i am not sure what we do. We could rest players and get absolutely tonked which wouldn't be great for morale going into the 2nd leg or we could go half and half and try and play out a draw.

UTC!

You're being a lot more bullish about this than Jose is. His entire conference was about getting ready to pin any failure anywhere else but him. Think the fans deserve better than what he was dishing out if I'm honest. And this is someone who has listened to some of Moyes' conferences.

Oh I agree Mourinho's comments vs Southampton(?) about youth were pretty revealing: he basically said youth players are risks and Chelsea are too big to take risks.

Yes this should be in Chelsea thread but he brought it up and brought up a specific set of names. I see it a lot around the internet and it's frustrating. I was going to let it go until the MvG thing, but once I started I thought I may as well carry on.

Seems to me that now Mourinho is the manager, you might as well cut back a bit on your youth production considering you just know the best you'll get from it is a few cup appearances, then being sold on. You just know Mourinho only focuses on buying experienced players, and it works well for him

I think Chelsea will see it more like some investment to compensate against FFP. Get alot of youngsters for a penny and sell them for 5-8m profit so you can invest big in stars.

Our youth production useful though. Our current business model seems to be.
. 60% don't work out and are sold for a small loss
. 25% don't work out and are sold for a small profit
. 10% are good and are sold on for a good profit
. 5% are excellent and have a shot at the first team.

Sure it's 60-40 and we're probably losing a small amount overall, but it gives us access to a huge pool of talented youngsters who we can develop in the way we see fit without spending a fortune. Being able to just casually buy, develop and then discard players like KdB is always a plus.

Mourinho's game plan was carried out successfully. But... was it the right one?

I think not. Sure, Chelsea didn't concede a goal. But the **** will be pouring down Chelsea fans legs every time Atletico attack at the bridge. What a match the return leg will be!

PS. There aren't many managers who will openly admit they're going to play a weak team in the premier league with 3 games to go despite having a chance of winning the league. What a *****.

On what basis? Was he not the man who bought through Davide Santon and made him mark Ronaldo at the age of 17? Was he not the one who helped bring through Morata? Nacho Fernandez? People seem to be forgetting that this is new to Jose too. He has never been at a club where he has to build something which will last longer than 3 years. And our youth teams in recent years have been excellent to watch but as we all know at that level its not about the team so much as much about the individual and name me one player which Chelsea have let go of in the past who has gone on to play at a better/same level? Only one in my opinion and that was Matic.

Haha just how? At this current moment in time we have a better shout at winning the Champions League than the League and with the amount of injuries we currently have why shouldn't we prioritize the Champions League?

And here you are talking about him instead of Chelsea and their performance............

Ooh a cfc thread great last night wz good defensively but poor going forward IMO

If Mourinho has said he's going to play a weakened side, shouldn't he be fined like Blackpool and Wolves were?

Roman wants Cavani! Chelsea interest in Diego Costa set to be halted by Russian owner | Football | Sport | Daily Express

This is all just journalism speculation, foreign journalism at that. Just wondering what you make of it and who you, as Chelsea fans, would prefer.

I haven't really followed Cavani since he moved but I remember noting at Napoli that he was very much a homegame player. Whether that was down to their style or if that's the type of player that he is I don't know but I would need to see proof he can consistently deliver on the road.
