Cant see how that's any different from going into the season with Costa, Lukaku and a **** Torres

Kind of is though. Drogba may still show up for a big game every once in a while, but last time he really showed up in regular season was what, 3-4 years ago? Not what I would call a reliable squad player. As a backup of a backup of a backup - sure.

Chelsea are looking comfortable on that any way, so not as big a deal. Being a legend somewhat irrelevant, if its not all there on the pitch.

Even if Chelsea are looking comfortable, doesn't mean we shouldn't look to improve our financial books and getting Torres off them would be a huge help. I agree that Drogba has regressed heavily on the pitch but I can't see how Torres would do any better as our 3rd choice striker

Also worth noting that Drogba is Lukaku's idol so Lukaku might be more willing to stay if Drogba is around

Cant see why Torres would be any better as our 3rd choice striker either ... The last time Torres showed up in a regular season was probably 3-4 years ago as well

You could say that to the player it may not be beneficial but to the club it would be to have the cover also when you consider these few things too, Costa may have a return of his glass hamstring and I would be utterly astounded if he didn't see a red card. Drogba won't last 90 minutes he couldn't do it for Ivory Coast so got no chance in the prem, then lukaku is a bit limited and can lose form at times so having a 4th choice youngster may not be a bad shout really all things considered

Well Schurrle can play up top if need be and Fabregas is a decent False Nine

Torres has actually been killer in Europe, with some very big goals repeatedly. Which is pretty vital in a 3rd choice striker.

He shows up in Europe, that makes him quite viable with amount of games you have to play. Drogba on the other hand doesn't really show up anywhere unless its vs. Arsenal or a cup final or something.

That's my point with Torres. He's actually really effective in Europe.

Except it's false ... Drogba played a huge role in our CL win. Scored a brace vs Valencia. Winning goal against Barcelona in the 1st leg. Winning goal in the CL finals itself

Torres shows up in Europa league

Which 'big goals' are you referring to? The one he scored against Barcelona which wouldn't have made a difference since we were already going through? Or the ones he scored in the Europa League?

I genuinely struggle to think of reasons why replacing Torres with Drogba would be bad

- Comparitively little difference in quality. Drogba's skill set probably makes him more useful as an impact sub

- Drogba will be on lesser wages

- Drogba is a legend while Torres is a hugely polarizing figure

- Drogba is Lukaku's idol which will make it more likely Lukaku will stay

We would be crazy not to do this if we could

I genuinely struggle to think of reasons why replacing Torres with Pele would be bad.

- Pele will be on lesser wages

- Pele is a legend while Torres is a hugely polarizing figure

- Pele is everybody's idol which will make it more likely everybody will stay

Not sure what's the point of you saying this at all ...

Drogba is clearly past it, there's no way he offers more than Torres. I can understand why having him back in the dressing room and at the club is a positive thing, but I don't expect anything out of him as a player.

The thing is ... I agree whole heartedly with you that Drogba is past it as a player but so is Torres. I don't expect anything out of either of them. At least Drogba brings certain positive intangibles to the club

It clearly is a sentimental signing to bring Drogba. I can't see how it will bring anything to Chelsea's table. If anything it works in Drogba's favour as a final big pay off which Abramovich is willing to pay.

It is most definitely unless he replaces Torres in which case Chelsea would be better off

Anyone who's ruling Didier Drogba coached by Jose Mourinho out is ******* mental.

Because there isnt much great about swapping Torres for Drogba. Apart from wages.

Good for Lukaku mind.

It's Didier Drogba, at Chelsea, coached by Jose Mourinho.

I'd have thought you'd have realised how potentially terrifying this is, no matter his age.
