Sold: Luiz (£50M) Lukaku (£28M) = £78m

Bought: Fabregas (£27M) Costa (£30M) Luis (£16M) Drogba (Free) = £73m

So we still have £150m to spend. Yeah.

Javier Hernandez anyone? I mean he does love a goal at Stamford bridge ;) highly doubt utd would sell him to us but I would love him at the club tbh

Money was never a problem. Balls in our Jose's court now. He has the money to splash out and plenty of the transfer window left. Can see Mikel or Cech leaving as well

I remember when FFP was announced, everyone was slagging Chelsea off saying the days of heavy spending are over. I think it's wonderful to see how Roman has managed to beat everyone to the punch without sacrificing success on the pitch

By far the best in the market when you consider net spend so far, excellent from the club and Jose.

There was a reason why Roman was fully behind FFP but haters just believed Chelsea would be screwed, more wishful thinking.

Look at Diego Costa. He was sent out on loan countless times by Atletico Madrid who never believed in his ability. **** he was even sold at one point in time so that they could get Asenjo. He was constantly overlooked for a starting role whenever Atletico Madrid inevitably sold their star striker before replacing him with someone from outside despite him scoring goals and showing obvious ability

Did he give countless interviews demanding a starting role? No

Did he cry and demand a loan when Atletico spent big money getting the best striker in the world Falcao instead of giving him a chance? No ... This was inspite of him banging in goals for Rayo that very season before Atletico bought Falcao

He kept his head down, worked incredibly hard and competed with Falcao. He proved himself on the pitch. When the opportunity came, he grabbed it with both hands and led his team to the title. Mourinho said that Costa has had to work very hard for everything he has achieved in his life and it's clear. The guy is a born winner. Very happy to have him in the squad

Dont get me wrong, Lukaku is right in his own way. I just think it's interesting to see difference in the way Costa and Lukaku have approached their careers

Just watched the game and was a good test against a step up in opposition. Main things to take from this game for me was first of all Costa involved in all 3 goals including 2 assists. Some may say "why not shoot" but our problem was putting the ball in the back of the net last season so doesn't matter if its Costa who scores or if he puts it on a plate for someone else who scores as long as they score. The main thing from the goals was Costa's runs in behind which is something we have lacked for a while. I felt the defence did their job well, we limited Vitesse to mainly long range strikes which Cech will have every day of the week. Also loved Baker's little 10 minute cameo, chased down everything, won the ball back numerous times and played some excellent passes, the young lad is showing he is a cut above the rest of the academy lads and deserves to be around the first team.

Now on Lukaku i would have loved to have seen him make something of himself as Chelsea but i'm not annoyed to see him leave. He is a man who runs his mouth off, shows he will throw his toys out the pram and does not want to compete to be number 1. I have also been saying for some time now that you have to question why no other "top tier" sides where interested in him, Everton are a good side but 5th is the limit for them. 28 million for a player who could have potentially upset the squad harmony, never done anything for the side for us to miss and only had 2 years left on his current contract. I say another top deal from the club this summer.

Amazingly put!

Think Costa's anticipation and the way he took off for the first goal was brilliant. Then he unselfishly laid it onto Salah who was in a better position to score even though he could have scored himself. Also credit to Salah who made an excellent diagonal run to provide an outlet for Costa. It was a very nice counter-attacking move

For the second move, I think that's what happens when you have a striker willing to run at the defense. Costa's direct running won him the free-kick and we have players like Fabregas who can take advantage of free-kicks in such dangerous positions easily. Hopefully this continues when teams inevitably park the bus against us

Third goal was another great move. Matic wins the ball and Costa again takes off with his powerful running towards goal before laying it off to Matic who is in a better position

It's really good to finally see a proper striker in a Chelsea shirt again. Can't wait to see how he does with Oscar, Schurrle, Hazard and Willian dragging defenders all over the place behind him

I wouldn't actually mind him. He has a knack for being in the right place at the right time inside the box. Very good impact sub. Also United kinda owe us one after we sold them Mata :P

I dont understand this, if you admit Lukaku was right in his own way, why did you spend an entire season arguing otherwise?

Runs his mouth off, throws his toys out the pram, potentially upset the squad harmony lol. He hasn't done anything of this still Chelsea fans started to attack him about his weak mentality. If anything he has been top pro who wants to play rather than warm the bench.

Not sure when did he upset dressing room to say potentially he could. Same thing can be said about every single player in the world.

He gave 1 or 2 interviews which is normal for any young player who wants to play. He said he doesn't mind leaving if he doesn't get chance. That's fair enough interview. Only Chelsea fans can see it as something weak mentality. Not every player wants to go out on loan forever or warm bench.

It's a great deal for Chelsea but the way some Chelsea fans go about him is worse than United fans going on about Pogba. He signed 3 years back, he didn't get the chance so he wants to leave for his career. Not sure why Chelsea fans are so upset that they started to fabricate stories.

Also I don't remember his creating any problems at all for Chelsea. He had a word with Jose and wants out. What's wrong in that?

Also few Chelsea fans using World cup as argument to prove he isn't good enough for top club, well Hazard was worse than him or at least as worse.

You are not seeing the patter isn't it.

KDB left as he wasn't given any chance, few Chelsea fans said he wasn't good enough or mentally strong.
2 times player of the year Mata left, he wasn't good enough defensively anyways.
Lukaku left, he is weak mentally. Can't compete with Costa.

And all these players were praised to heavens when they were signed.

Almost whole post is wrong anyways.

Costa was signed when he was 19 and loaned out. played one season when he was 22 where he wasn't good enough. Loaned out. Scored few goals so he got chance at Atletico. Same thing as Lukaku just that he didn't get chance at Chelsea.

Also by the time Costa got proper chance he was 24 or 25, not sure why everyone would prefer that route. Also there isn't any rumor that they were clubs waiting for his signature.

Not really. He was loaned to Rayo Vallencao where he scored 10 in 16 games despite being injured for most of the season. Atletico sold Augerui and bought Falcao in the summer and didn't give him a chance. He came back and competed with Falcao instead of running off. Proved himself on the pitch. Wasn't afraid of competiion

Clear dichotomy with Lukaku. He banged in goals at Everton. He came back. Chelsea bought a 80 year old Eto'o. Instead of competing, he ran off on loan. Afraid of competition

Right in his own way in the sense that he feels he needs regular games to improve and the way to get that is to drop down a level. My main issue with him was that he kept saying he wanted to start for Chelsea despite clearly not being good enough
