The same way a ex-criminal is let free into society after serving his time because the perception is that they have changed their ways after being punished and deserve a second chance at life

No, that's completely different. You are a racist today and tomorrow you're not? How does that work? It's in your brain. It's like, today you believe in a god, tomorrow you are an atheist. It's.... impossible.

A thief can stop stealing. Completely different.

I can say from personal experience that this does happen.

Its not impossible. Sure it's hard for someone to change deeply entrenched beliefs but it's possible and they deserve a second chance. With the outrage that this incident generated coupled with the punishment, I will be very surprised of these people don't realize that what they did was morally abhorrent and wrong and will change their ways. Of course if they return and continue to engage in this despicable behaviour then they should be banned for life but they definitely deserve a second chance

You would really have to be completely cold-hearted not to feel some excitement at seeing Falcao finally wearing a Chelsea shirt after all these years of speculation and rumours. A genuine superstar. Really hope he gets back to his best. It takes some real guts to push for an EPL move after the way he flopped at United

Radamel Falcao trains with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho watching on | Daily Mail Online

I guess that makes me.. cold-hearted then? :P

No idea what the club is playing at tbh. I have a feeling we might be reserving money for the new stadium. Now we know what arsenal fans felt like every summer :P

If we want to stay competitive we need major signings here and there though.

So Costa and Hazard are leaving then? :)

Chelsea board member Marina Granovskaia named as the 24th most influential person in football (ahead of Mourinho).

"Oh look there's David Luiz, he once played for Chelsea. What should we do? I know! Let's boo him!"... F***ing idiots! Honestly these American 'fans' are just embarrassing.

Are you sure it was about him leaving Chelsea? They're Americans, they probably have no ******* idea who played for the club 12 months ago. Maybe something he did during the game, audience there is weird, there was random going on during Barca-United and I couldn't even figure out why.

Cultural differencies and all that.

Could be, but I doubt it. The silly bastards started booing him straight from kick-off.

We do not cheer for players that have left whatever team we are fans of. The fact that he got boo'd has more to do with him being, for some goofy reason, the face of Brazilian football over here.

Which is what Tyton means about cultural differences. If a player leaves with no acrimony and a deal that works for both parties, why the **** would you then boo them in a friendly? It's the kind of dumb, partisan **** that makes fandoms so irritating to deal with, and something that is especially bad in American sports (and in the national ideology really, but that's another conversation entirely). Why do we need to have such an us vs them mentality where you're either with us or against us?

Unfortunately, football in America has a rather lacking mixture of American and misunderstood world football tropes, leading to some very odd fan interactions. Fans chanting "the referee's a ******!" outside the game before it even starts, directed at a ref they had no actual issue with, is probably the classic example.

At least it was Chelsea match and cheer or boo was for ex Chelsea player (not saying it is not wrong, booing someone in preseason is so weird). Sterling getting booed in the game City Vs Roma and City Vs Madrid was even weird.

Perhaps it has something to do with the way he acted like a complete **** in pushing for a move? Even players like Terry have been jeered at random grounds and games because fans simply don't like their character
