Think the players wishes are the key, after all PSG offered 40m and he refused to go there. Anything could happen here. Wonder what has changed for him to no longer want Chelsea.

I think its a matter of comparison. Last season only Chelsea showed interest in him and he wanted to leave Spurs. So he decided to try and force a move through to Chelsea who were his only option

Now it seems that both Madrid and now Chelsea have shown an interest in him. And he prefers Madrid. That is not to say he does not want Chelsea. Just prefers to go to Madrid over Chelsea. Can't blame him either.

What do you think though Mike.? It seems to me like Levy will do everything he can to delay the deal and force Modric to go to Chelsea. Levy has shown in the past that a players wishes is one of his least worries. Would be interested to hear your thoughts

Levy failed to ship him to PSG, so he might have to wait and see. It's more down to Modric than anything.

Chelsea aint holding back are they,

what chance have other clubs got with City, United and Chelsea being able to splash the cash every year..

The same as the last 20 years :p People can say money doesn't buy success, but it does. It might not win you the title immediately, but persist and you'll achieve

To be fair though, this is the last time Chelsea are going to be spending on this scale due to the FFP. Our team was **** last season and we are just using our CL winnings to make one final spending spree. Thus the focus on buying top youngsters like Hazard, Marin and Oscar so that they can contribute to the club for a long time

City have not spent much this summer have they? Liverpool have spent more than them

Still though the price difference between Madrid's offer and Chelsea's is too big for Levy to ignore... Chelsea have left it really late tbh. If they had come in earlier with this offer things may have been different. Agree with you, will have to wait and see now

Most Spurs fans I know are just sick of the whole transfer saga and want it to end either way. Mostly they are ****** because they felt the money from the Modric transfer could have been reinvested into the squad however Levy is dragging it out shortening the time they have to reinvest whatever cash they get

PSG's offer was too big, Modric wasnt interested. We'll see if its the case with Chelsea, but yeah even AVB wants it over and done with. Levy is playing hardball and causing the club issues by doing so. Agree late for Chelsea, and also what then is the point of Oscar?

And Liverpool never used money to buy players in all their history? Success generates cash generates success.

i mean in terms of wages aswell, its unbelievable... i dont blame them, if you have it spend it

But Liverpool had sold a fair few on big wages to pay for the moves, and Man City have tried to spend, look at RVP and Hazard offers...

just them signings alone would eclipse Liverpool's whole spending haha

If we're going to spend £30m+ on a centre mid I'd prefer Witsel over Modric.

No idea but Lampard is in the last year of his contract and club have not initiated negotiations with him. If this transfer goes through, Lampard is 100% going to be released next summer.

Not sure about Oscar at alll. He will need time to make that transition to the deeper role and adapt to the league and it was expected that Lampard would be used as a stopgap measure till then. Getting pretty confusing now

I'm not sure Chelsea have a set plan on who or what they specifically want. They have the money so fair play but it seems very "lets buy all the attackers!!" kind of thinking.

Not really imo. Oscar is on 70-80k p/w which is the same Mata is on. Hazard is on 100k p/w. Marin is around the same as Oscar, maybe even lower

We have paid for our moves through our CL prize money as well as well as releasing Drogba, Kalou and Bosingwa to free up wages. Expect Malouda, Benayoun and perhaps Meriless out as well

Chelsea freed up a lot of wages and used CL winnings to help fund this spree. Without the CL none of this would have happened.

Newspaper reporting Hazard is on 175k and Oscar on 150k...

Just different sources i suppose... but there is still no doubt Chelsea have a **** load of money to spend!

Yeah exactly... My guess is that RDM does not feel that Oscar will be ready for a deeper role anytime soon. Needs to develop his defensive abilities, get used to the league and understand his role. At the same time, does not want to compromise the performance of the team by putting Lampard there for the entire season... therefore the bid for Modric'

Best reason I can think of although it still is unconvincing.

It is also important to remember that Oscar is very young- only 20. So by the time he is ready for the deeper role, Modric might not have the legs to play games week in and out

Nonsense... Only three Chelsea players are above 150k p/w. Torres, Terry and Lampard.
