Maybe because his performances in some games are costing us points. Maybe because his lack of movement is costing us chances. Maybe because he was threatening to leave last season if he was not given the the role of first-choice striker and has failed miserably. Maybe because his monumental ****-ups in front of goal have cost us trophies already this season. Maybe because he is wildly inconsistent.
Is he being scapegoated? Yes to a certain extent he is but thats because fans know that if we had a better striker we would be winning a lot more games than we are now. See RVP for Manchester United. Is the criticism of his performances undeserved? Definitely not.
Well everyone has bad games and good games. If you get one major chance for a striker in 90 mins which aint a goal, its not good enough for a striker. Just look at how many shots other strikers in the league are having? Of course the striker needs to show the lethal touch by only needing that one chance, but it cant workout everytime.
His lack of movement is costing chances. Yes well as Ive said, he is at times in the right channels and when he is there, he doesnt get the ball. But you got Hazard, Mata, Oscar and stuff. Chip in behind the backline the ball and see whether Torres gets it. As I said, find him from behind 10 guys if need be. Put the ball by chip, cross, low pass or anything behind the line or somewhere where he is lurking. Then see what happens, if it aint starting to be beneficial, then Ill admit he aint willing to move anymore.
Yes he demanded a first-choice striker role, but I think he said during the interview that he was promised something which he didnt actually get during that season (probably more playing time I presume). He just doesnt want to sit on the bench as no footballer do. Understandable aint it but yes, I bet someone is gona bring up that he aint in the position to demand such things considering his performances. According to Goal.com he has scored 15 goals this season in total, it aint that bad haul for a guy whose been having difficulties ever since his move to the club and the season aint over yet.
Monumental ****-ups in front of goal, a striker needs more than one awesome chance at goal. Mistakes do happen and players do miss chances, but since he usually has that one chance at goal, he aint grabbing it always and then he gets the blame. Yes, as I pointed out, striker needs to have that lethal touch at times (needing only that one chance). Just out of curiosity I checked Torres, RVP, Suarez and Tevez statistics by googling and found that in Premier League, RVP has 74 shots in 21 games whereas Torres has 47 shots in 20 games. Tevez had 19 games and 60 shots and Suarez racking up the most in 20 games and 123 shots! Suarez gets about 6,51 shots per game and has scored 15 goals only. RVP has 3,52 shots and 16 goals, Tevez 3,16 and 7 goals. For me, this says that Torres aint found in the areas where he could have a chance to score. Now this is again tied to his lack of movement as some say, but I already said what I thought about it. Yes, inconsistency comes cos he aint having the shots and chances. I got the stats from ESPN FC and I believe its reliable, since goal.com had the same amount of goals in PL as ESPN FC.
Well RVP is immense class, no doubt about it but hes having more shots, which means he is found in the areas where he can have a pop. I mean, they have Carrick.
Im sorry if my mathematical calculations are incorrect, but they shouldnt be.
