It's great to see Chelsea building from the youth now, rather than spending as lavishly as they once did! And beating Arsenal youth is always an achievement, who are they facing in the final?
hmm investing in youth yes but still spending lavishly. Look at last summer! And this summer im sure they will spend huge, need a fair few players!

I get your point, but they have spent a lot less in comparison to Man City - at to what they spent in, 2006, say, IIRC.

Highlights for anyone who hasn't seen them.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is something special, future england midfielder.

Tbf compared to others, Moses did try. And Terry looked very subdued when he scored. Some of the others need to take a long hard look at themselves. And Ba should have come on. Lampard got help from......no-one. Abysmal. At the same time, thoroughly deserved for Southampton. Played excellent football though they had to hang on towards the end. And they should have been more prepared bearing in mind what Southampton have to done to other teams this season

Well thats Moses for you. Tries hard, works hard, he is very determined, but its all just farting in the wind. His cross completion percentage has to be like 1 out of 100. Benitez himself would be more productive as a winger, at least he would distract the other team with his belly and throw notes at them.

that made me smile. for a second.

Ever get the feeling that your last game of the season against us could decide CL football for someone? And could determine where Fellaini goes aswell? Lots of implications I suspect

I'll start with well done Southampton that was 100% deserved! Really did impress me today and i do hope they stay up 1. because it's close to me and i can go next season and 2. it will really **** my mates off who all support Pompey and they are all dicks!

Absolutely ******* horse ****! On Friday i came across a fellow fan who said he was 100% convinced we would win today and was not having none of it. Why because something popped up in my head this week and it is quite simply this.

Clubs Policy - Finish in the top 4
Rafa's Policy - Win trophies to add to CV

Rafa couldn't give a toss whether Chelsea are in the Champions League next season and why should he? Finishing in the top 4 doesn't stand out on your CV does it? Club and manager have totally different intentions so how on earth is this ever going to turn out with a positive outcome????

Its quite simple, today should have been the priority over Monday's game. You play a strong side from the off get in a decent position and then bring players off to rest them for Monday once the game is won. Now Mata was unfit today so fair enough don't want to risk him etc, if Mata is out you HAVE to start Hazard that is the minimum requirement!

Said this weeks ago and my mind has not changed, if Rafa stays until the end of the season we will NOT finish in the top 4.

Im not counting my chickens mate, out youth always get shunted out on loan while our first team looks thread bare! The clubs policy with youngsters is absolutely sickening! We got Villa in the final too.

All i ever see him do is ******* write notes! Game starts writing notes, goal scored writing notes, start of 2nd half writing ******* notes! Staples must ******* love him!

Moses was horrible, Clyne had him in his pocket the whole game.

Nothing to be ashamed of. I can tell you from personal experience that Clyne is a fantastic player, not to mention he's played against Moses since they were both about 14.

1 in 17, actually. But that's only marginally worse than Ashley Cole's. Chelsea's problem is with a lack of targets. Not to mention that he keeps on playing against his natural inclination to cut inside because Chelsea need more natural width.

Agree with Karl Rafa could not give a toss how we do in the league as long as he has at least one of either the FA cup or Europa league to his name and that certainly showed withe line up he picked today.

Thats still dreadful. Lack of targets does not completely explain all those balls fired into no man land's. Guy just plain cant cross.

Yeah i know what he offers tactically , but he's really ineffective with ball at his feet.

I feel for Rafa a bit with the team selection issue. Damned if he did, damned if he didn't...

I'd imagine he was given green light by the board to still try and take FA/EL as seriously as possible. The whole "CV grab" theory is just a fan-fiction, any manager would be fired instantly If the board would think he has his priorities wrong.

None of that is true. Saying he can't cross and he offers little with the ball at his feet goes against half a decade at various levels of English football. I've watched - and indeed on occasion played with - Vic for years now, and that just isn't true. ****, even if I just take last year's stats for some solid evidence, a quarter of his attempted crosses found a target. The year before it was slightly lower, at around 20%. The year before that it was around 30%.

None of those figures suggest someone who 'can't cross'. What it does suggest is that there's something drastically wrong at Chelsea to make him fall so far beneath his previous crossing figures. Most of his other stats - successful dribbles, shots per game, key passes - are pretty similar to the ones he achieved in his Wigan career, minus his annus mirabilis last season at Wigan in which he took up the majority of the team's attacking burden.

Besides all this, I thought on the whole he played alright against Southampton. He made Shaw run hard in defence, got back well to cover, took a couple of shots and went on a dribble or two. He was certainly better than Oscar, who made pretty much no impact whatsoever, and (although it rather goes without saying) Torres, who couldn't be ****** to move half the time.

As a side note, it was very interesting to see Marin play today. He did pretty much as expected; showed some lovely touches, played some decent balls, and put some dangerous crosses in, but left Bertrand exposed. Nats had a field day, even with Marin being more hard-working than usual (likely to impress his manager, who values hard work. Still, though, good on him for showing a little endeavour, even if his exertions merely brought his work rate up to "below-average" rather than his usual "absymal").

I rarely post on Rafa's topic as it is too much of a **** to be involved in but this is spot on imo.

I knew this would happen, he wants his cv to be impressive so he couldn't give monkey's if you finish 4th or 5th as long as he wins 2 cups this season. Domestic and European cup winner will add lot to his cv than finished 4th with Chelsea.

With the team selection I thought it was obvious that he is prepared to take risk on CL spot for FA cup.

Also his rivalry against Fergie. He doesn't want to field weaker team at all. It would be hilarious if you lot finished just outside 4th say with one point ;) (and obviously losing FA cup)

(Btw I really wish you or Newcastle and Spurs go on to reach europa finals. By the latest coefficients PL can drop to 3rd behind Bundesliga as next season they won't consider 2008-09 coefficients where PL had 2.5 points lead on Bundesliga, now with 2 Bundesliga teams in CL we need Chelsea, Spurs and Newcastle to go as far as possible in Europa.)

Rafa thinks fans will like him if he wins FA/EL even if we dont finish in the top 4.
2nd scenario, he doesn't care about fans and he just wants to upgrade on his CV.
The latter seems more likely.
