I agree. People say he aint scoring goals, playing well ect but honestly, how is he ment to show what he can do when AVB keeps him on the bench? On his day theres no doubt his one of the best strikers in Europe. AVB needs to give him chances.

Predictions tonight? Well its hard because even if Chelsea get a 0-0 draw and Bayer Leverkusen win, they are out. Great atmosphere, hope for a great game. Wouldn't it be ironic if Cheslea, Man Utd & Man City go out of the CL and Arsenal are the only English team left in the competition after the start Arsenal had this season.

Why should Torres start? There's nothing I can see to warrant him being in the first team right now, other than the fact he has a huge price tag and Chelsea don't want to look stupid benching a player who cost that much. Judging by the scoreline, AVB was correct. If you're waiting for him to suddenly "find his form" again, you could be waiting a long time. He should earn his spot in less important games.

Who says Torres should of started? Great first half from Chelsea and Drogba. He has looked like his old self tonight. Would still like to see Torres get some game time though especially if we score another goal or two without conceding.

Because the whole point of this season is transition. This is almost certainly Drogba's last year with us; a number of sources are even suggesting that he will leave in January. At some point in the near future, we will have to cope without him and Torres needs to step up and be the main striker, like he did (miss aside) in the United game. Leaving him on the bench basically says that we don't trust him to put in a performance in an important game.

It's all very and good looking back and saying Drogba's been great tonight but before the game, this kind of performance was hardly assured, tbqh it's quite a surprise.

Drogbas strength and ability to use that strength to keep hold of the ball has been a key so far in this game. Torres does not posses the strength Didier does and imo if Torres started tonight he would of struggled to get in the game in that first half.

In theory land, yeah that's great, but then Torres' speed, finishing and ability to feed off through balls would have made him electric on the counter. He would have also allowed us to play a 4-2-3-1 which brings Mata's magic into play a lot more.

So both of them have the attributes you'd want but before today, neither of them looked sharp. It's easy to look back now Drogba's scored a great goal to say that he should have started but no-one, except maybe the manager and the man himself, had any idea if he'd really turn up tonight.

Torres has been a lot better than Drogba recently, and I cannot see Drogba ever being anywhere near his best again. Not saying I would have necessarily started Torres however, but I wouldn't be playing Drogba as much as AVB is doing over these past few games. Drogba hasn't even been that good today despite a goal and assist. The goal he had a nice touch to bring it onto his left foot, but the finish was poor. The assist he did well to bring it down and take it into space, but the pass to Ramires was terrible, and Ramires' determination was what got us the goal. He has been winning the ball well, which is good but all of his touches have been poor. And Drogba does suit the play a lot more today, but when we are playing the high line, then Torres has to be first choice because Drogba doesn't press enough.

Hopefully Torres gets more than 10 minutes today though. But the result is obviously the most important thing here whoever plays.

Does he really? I don't think so. The old Drogba had a great touch, could pass the ball well, and would always be pestering defenders; I haven't seen that tonight.

Oh, and don't get me wrong; I think Drogba's played well today, but still nowhere near the Drogba of old.

I don't know about the other games, but AVB probably benched him in this game because it was a must-win game and he didn't want to put any more pressure on Torres' shoulders. There are still plenty of easy matches left for him to regain confidence, I'd say.

DROGBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

That little through ball from Mata is EXACTLY what we've been missing.

do sturridge hate torres or something???

seems like he doesnt pass to torres in every game i've seen.

Ah you saw that little run Torres made behind his man, just before Sturridge decided to hit a hopeful potshot? That's why I think we need people like Mata out wide as well as a central playmaker.
