That's my point though, he's not an inside forward, he's a wide striker. It sounds like a stupid distinction but it's an important one. A modern inside forward has to be either to pass or cross (ideally both). Sturridge can't do either, he won't move to receive the ball (Mata has 2x as many average passes as Sturridge) and all he wants to do is dribble and score. I don't think he's good enough in the middle to play for us as a starter at the first team level (what he wants) so unless he expands his game, sell him on and buy someone with less of an ego.

The only way i think he could do a job upfront is if he was in a 2 with a big target man striker.

Last point on Revista:

Graham Hunter said he can kick the cross bar as he is over 6 foot lol

Josh would offer more than Meireles without a doubt. Brana's best performances have come at right back and defenders first job is to defend and Bosingwa does not do that. Like i said yesterday yes he attacks ok but has been at fault for alot of our goals this season. Yes it helps the wages but where is the replacements going to come from?? We still showed a loss of 60+mill last year so we can't really spend anything.

You're about to get even closer based on the next report. Chelsea will be able to spend good amount, and not be in trouble, as they can show they are going in the right direction.

AVB is trying to achieve something even SAF would have trouble with. He is paying for the consistent short sightedness of Roman, and I think Roman has finally learnt this. Those 6 players could save you over 500k a week.

Without CL footy... I don't think so. So much depends on their 4th place.

I'm not debating the wages thing but surely signing the best players in the window would push the wage bill back up again. Selling so many players at the same time would be the worst thing for the club. I agree with the likes of Malouda, Bosingwa, Drogba and maybe even Torres and Essien to go personly but not everyone.

Im not saying everyone, but you have also got players like Kalou, Ferreira etc who can go. The wage will not go massively up unless you are paying them all 120k when you sign them. Its not all about the very best, but good players who can go on to be great. Players like Eriksen etc.

This is without CL, the figures have already been released

First of all I'd like to see those figures, but above all things, if you're going to get players to replace those you sold and you can't even offer them CL football you'll have to do a City and offer them massive wages again. You're putting it far too simply IMO.

Go read back on the thread, and secondly you dont need to do that, unless you are hunting elite players, i just said this to Carl

I don't mind Kalou especially as a sub. We all know how greedy footballers and their agents are. If/when Eriksen gets a big move he will be on more than 60k a week without a doubt.

And if you're not 'hunting "Elite" players', then what are you 'hunting'? Young average players to replace old average players? =/

Guus Hiddink has been appointed manager of Anzhi on an 18 month deal.. Won't be Chelsea's saviour this season if AVB does get sacked.

Hiddink took them over today? MIght get them to champions league next season.

Have to agree, also what is the point in replacing our younger players when not being bias we proberly have the best youth team around and have done for the last 2 odd years. AVB has not done enough to bring through our younger players so they will be ready for his future.

Young hungry good players. Instead of being a smart ****, read what i said to Carl

You want him to bring them all through, and get CL footy at the same time? Eriksen is an example, and i doubt he would ask for 60k, though 60 is better than 120k. And i wouldnt call it the best youth team, you have potential.

I'm not trying to be a smartass Mike, I just think you're being too hopeful. Chelsea have hungry young players, I could probably name 4 or 5 of them, Jacko could probably name a lot more than me you can count on that, but you can't put 11 kids on the pitch and ask them to win you the league. If they do a massive clearout, they will need to get some players with experience, and I don't mean old players, but players with the quality to play at the top level from the moment they sign to the moment they leave.

No i don't want him to bring them all through at the same time because we would be below 5th for sure. Lukaku, Bertrand, McEachran (for Chelsea not Swansea), Piazon and Van Aanholt (before his loan to Vitesse) have 9 starts between them and all of them where in the Carling Cup!!!! Some of these are the future of Chelsea and suposidly his future and he has not given them enough time on the pitch.

At what point did i say kids? Or about putting 11 kids on the pitch. If you stopped putting words in my mouth, you'd see its not about being hopeful. Chelsea would still have a good core in the side, from Cech upwards. Drogba and Essien are two would i would keep. Drogba is the only one of the old guard, who seems to care without showing his ego. Im talking about about bringing in 3-4 22-24 year olds, and mixing them with the likes of Piazon/Bertand next season, alongside a core of Essien, Ramires, Mata, Brana, Cole, Luiz etc.

He already has one balancing act with the old players, while fighting for 4th. It cant all happen at once. This is why one season isnt enough
