Thats what i thought but then given how off the pace Cole looked when he did come, you can see he wasnt really fit, was at fault for one of the goals.
Yeah, but I think Cole in a wheelchair is probably better defensively than Bosingwa. Also, has to be said that Cole was also responsible for the game finishing 3-1 rather than 4-1.
Very fair point. Absolutely vital goal clearance, so that kinds evens out. Chelsea need a Utility Fullback, a proper right back, a DLP, and a winger on both flanks
And to do that while getting in the CL and not ******** up with FFP. Needless to say that's a tough challenge for any manager.
Exactly, all this while battling egos of the incumbent players. Which is why Chelsea fans need to be patient. If Roman had been less trigger happy, this wouldnt be such a drastic case.
Not if you sell or reduce the wages of your older players who are coming closer to the end of their careers and invest in young players. It might take a while to pay off, but it's the best way of sorting your team out imo.
That would mean Chelsea won't be challenging for anything in some time and neither the fans nor Roman would want that.
That is the cost of Roman's approach previously. Whether the fans like it doesnt matter, its what needs to happen. The fact the AVB still has a job shows that Roman knows its the right approach, for now anyway
That's where I beg to differ. IMO, the change could have been far more gradual had Carlo stayed in charge or if AVB hadn't alienated the older players so quickly and gradually introduced the younger players. Had that happened, maybe Chelsea wouldn't be having such a hard time getting 4th place and could spend a fair bit more next season. Then again, this is entirely hypothetical, although we could all agree in the fact that the older players and AVB don't get along and that clearly reflects on the pitch.
Not really. I would say get rid of Malouda/Terry/Cech then maybe Cole/Drogba/Bosingwa/Essien. Then they still have players like Mata/Torres/Ramires/Sturridge/Ivanovic/Mikel/Cahill who are a decent backbone for a team, and then they have Romeu/Lukaku/Mceachran/Bertrand/Luiz as youngsters that can be integrated into the team, then could use the money raised from the sale of players mentioned priorly. It probably won't happen, but I suppose with the way they are currently playing, it could probably do them a world of good.
Or they could just do what Newcastle have done and go scout out some bargains around Europe.

I assume you'd be fitting Ferreira, Lampard and Kalou with the first two groups as well. That would mean getting rid of 10 players all in one go, among them their goalkeeper, their best 2 defenders, and arguably their best forward (Drogba) and central midfielder (Essien, although I realy like Ramires). That would be pretty **** hard to replace, and I'm not sure that youngsters that have barely played so far like Bertrand, Lukaku or McEachran (Personally I'd also name Piazon who looks quite the talent and fairly level headed as well) will be ready to fill those gaps.
On your Newcastle comment, funnily enough I raised that exact same point several months ago (Probably a couple hundred pages back...). Cabaye or Ba would probably do wonders. You could also add the likes of Pjanic or Vidal to the bargain list.
I wouldnt get rid of Drogba, Essien or Cech (although they do have the excellent Courtois). Hard to replace the others? yes. Necessary? absolutely
I agree on both your points but I don't think it has to be done in one go and by alienating the older players. The clash of egos is hardly doing the club any favours, and it's also disrespectful to loyal servants to the club such as Terry, Drogba or Lampard, just like it was (In my opinion, that is) disrespectful to Anelka to ship him off to China without allowing him to eat with the rest of the team the day before. It also seems more likely by the minute that AVB has hardly got any control over the players or the dressing room, which is a direct by-product of his policy of not giving a **** about the support of the players.
I dont think that was his aim or intention to deliberately do it, remember he picked them every time at first into his system, they just didnt fit, that is how they have reacted. He didnt randomly get rid of anelka, there was a fallout. And the players picked sides.

Personally I don't think he really put any effort into keeping them happy. His ego is as big as that of the players he's trying to replace and neither side is willing to back down now.
Perhaps, But the likes of Terry think they are the club, not just big players. And he isnt one to stand for it, and perhaps rightly
If SAF was there, Terry would be lucky to be in the reserves, remember what happened to Stam...
If SAF was here this wouldn't have happened in the first place.
