The question isn't really of age, but how Chelsea want to play next year. If they want a higher line in a more progressive game, it becomes harder and harder for Terry, as its an obvious weakness teams will exploit. A question for Di Matteo to ponder over the summer.

I don't think it's a question of dropping JT fully - he's pretty much undroppable - but rather horses for courses. Playing a match with a high defensive line against a worse team that will sit back and play on the counter? Play Cahill and Luiz. Playing against a similar or better team, and need to play to Chelsea's strengths with penalty-box defending? Terry is your man.

He's still, for me, the best penalty-box defender on the planet, and has been for half a decade.

I think it depends how Di Matteo wants to play his defensive line. If in the future he wishes them to play high then dropping JT more than you usually would is the only option.

Basically what i just said then haha.

Terry played well against Italy, and especially luiz and Cahill, I thouhght they played brilliantly gents Munich, Cahill and luiz both looked good at penalty box defending. The amount of shots they blocked was fantastic.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how much game time Bertrand will get this season. Surely if RDM was prepared to start him in the CL final he will be prepared to possibly give him quite a few starts in the league this season coming? Good thing about Bertreand is of course he can cover for Cole if Cole is injured, suspended etc but he can also play on the wing if wingers are injured, suspended, on poor form etc. Hope Ryan gets quite a lot f action this season

Agree with you here. Cole has been long overdue a competent understudy and partly the reason why Cole has declined is because of the huge number of games he has been forced to play for both club and country as their was hardly any cover for him.

He is getting on now and by no means will he be able to play 45+ games next season. Needs to be rested and rotated more now to prolong his career.

Think Bertrand will not only get games covering for Cole but as you mentioned he has shown his versatility by adapting to a role on the left wing. Not to mention I feel he showed good attacking intent in the CL finals in that role although it amounted to nothing because he was up against one of the best LB/RB in the world in Lahm

Think Bertrand will develop into a excellent LB. Hope he continues to do well next season

Metro reporting that we have turned our sights to Schurrle after being warned off Moses. Would you take Schurrle?

I am interested in knowing whether Schurrle is someone who tends to drift from the wing into the centre to act as a #10 or whether he is a more classical winger running at defenders with speed and getting to the byline or moving in to take a shot

Because its the latter type of player we need.. Someone who can provide width and add another dimension to our attack. Because we already have Juan Mata who is one of the finest #10s in the world and Hazard who can play well there too

Neither. He's a bit of a cross between the two. He's not creative and probably a little too direct and selfish to be called a proper #10, but he crosses rarely (and when he does, not particularly well) and prefers to drift inside to take a shot.

He's a lethal runner with the ball and can pick the occasional pass, but his decision making needs work, and he tends to lose the ball a lot. He's by no means the finished article, but he's an exceptionally talented player.

hmm.. Not to mention he will probably cost in the range of 20-30m as Bayern Leverkusen has him tied down until 2016 and he is not agitating for a move. Doubt this transfer will happen.

Chelsea do not particularly need another attacking player so any signing would be a bit of a bonus. I do not mind someone like Moses who has tons of potential, proven in the EPL and is cheap but signing someone like Schurrle or Hulk who would be expensive would not be wise unless we are prepared to move on Sturridge which I doubt

Mata going on Chelsea Tour by the looks of things along with Romeu. Both commenting that they are excited and looking forward to the US. Still confused over whether they are in the Olympic squad or not. But now at least it looks like we got a full-strength squad going bar Sturridge

Lampard was rumoured to be in the GB squad, was that just lazy journalism/DailyFail or any truth in it?

Off topic, who are the over age players for GB?

Absolutely no idea tbh. I am massively confused because I read that Mata was in the Spain Olympics squad but then today on the Chelsea website, he and Oriol are saying how excited they are for the US tour.

Also, a few sources have posted that Giroud snubbed us for arsenal, if true means we're in the market for a striker, would you guys prefer not to buy a striker or to buy one

Very much doubt there was a concrete offer on the table for Giroud from us

He turned you down cos "He doubt RDM would understand him", told you manager would have an influence on transfers.

Wenger has a much bigger reputation than RDM, therefore players respect him/want to play under him more more often than not.

Beckham, Giggs and Bellamy.

I think we could be fine, Torres with Sturridge and Lukaku as back up.

That has nothing to do with the manager, that has to do with the fact Arsenal are France's feeder club!!!!!

As I said I doubt there was a concrete bid on the table from Chelsea. Torres is our undisputed main striker and I do not think Giroud would have wanted to sit on the bench. Not to mention RDM said he will give an opportunity to Lukaku to prove himself capable of playing cover for Torres

As far as I know, all Oliver said was that their was interest from Chelsea but nothing concrete and it somehow morphed into him snubbing Chelsea. Not a big loss even if we did bid for him. I can think of a dozen players I would rather have than Giroud

Yea that should be fine and if Torres continues to play badly then we can always go for a emergency signing in January. Torres has to step up this season. No more chances. No more excuses. We have made him our undisputed main striker and have shown massive confidence in him by letting Drogba go and not buying a replacement yet. He needs to repay that faith
