Napoli Interested in Raul Meireles-If we keep him he may struggle for a first team spot as there is a lot of depth in his role- Mikel, Essien, Oscar (Kind Of), Ramires (Kind of) and Lampard.

I think what he meant is that Bertrand is the future as Baines is probably not going to be at the top for more than 4-5 years and therefore cannot be characterized as a replacement for Cole

Baines is 28, so 4-5 years, thats 2 more tournaments at peak. So can definitely be characterised as a replacement.

His versatility is actually very useful. I'd argue much more strongly that we let go of Essien who is frankly injury-prone, old and past his best

Also Marko Marin is injured for the Man City game... sigh. Seems like Hazard will have to assume the creative burden of the team although perhaps Mata might play- He is match fit after all having played in the Olympics

Hopefully Mata does play though.. Seeing Mata, Hazard and Ramires behind Torres should be a treat to watch

Perhaps but then your assuming that Cole will not be playing in the next World Cup...

I havent made any assumptions. But he is 31, so even by your points re baines playing time left, he will be right at the edge come 2014, as he will be 33.

He’s a strong, powerful centre-forward who is young, enthusiastic and eager to learn. He was also desperate to come here."

“Romelu had a lot of Europe’s top clubs chasing him when he joined Chelsea from Anderlecht for big money a year ago and also had several Premier League teams wanting to take him on loan this summer, so we’ve done well to get him.

“We’re more than happy for Romelu to continue his development with us. I am sure he will be a big help to the squad over the course of the season."

Steve Clarke

Lukaku will face some competition for minutes from the likes of Odemwingie and Shane Long but I am confident he should do well. He was after all the most sought after teenager in all of Europe just a season ago

Fair enough but I do not think Carl ever meant to say Betrand was better than Baines

I think it's Moses as Leverkusen are no closer finding replacement for Schurrle.

I think they said that they would not be able to buy a adequate replacement for Schurrle with the money we initially offered. However they are open to selling. I am guessing that if Chelsea are willing to pay slightly over market value for him, we will get him.

But Ron Gourlay had a meeting with Dave Whelan this week. Nobody knows what happened in it yet. Moses is pretty desperate to secure a move to London and has informed Martinez/Whelan rightfully. Last I heard, Whelan publicly said he had told Chelsea a suitable price. Then had a meeting with Gourlay a few days later.

Ron Gourlay is one of our top honcho's if you are wondering btw lol

I think so too. Personally hope for Moses deal so we can send Ryo to Wigan.

Fernando Llorente would be ideal. Especially for the reported fee of £15m and the rumours that Sturridge may be on his way to Spurs.

If anything we should be sending McEachran on loan as part of the deal.

Dont really see Llorente as being ideal besides the fact that his name is also Fernando Torres. He is 27 and will be playing as back-up to Nando, dont think he would want that at this stage of his career. Danny > Llorente.

McEachran is completely different kind of player to Miyaichi or Moses. What Wigan need is wide forward to replace Moses and Miyaichi would be ideal.

Wigan are pretty covered in CM department so no point sending him to just sit on bench.

Nobody knows what happening on the Moses front though. Whelan seems intent on keeping him despite the fact that he will leave for free anyways and is holding out for 10m pounds which is a tad expensive

Then there were rumours of Schurrle earlier, we definitely were interested in him. He is sort of player RDM likes. Hard-working winger who tracks back and has excellent attacking attributes

Also there is Hulk who all but joined us last June. Few whispers that the deal will be done after the Olympics and frankly there is still a chance we do get him. Heard that we were interested but due to third-party ownership complications, we have not yet been able to close the deal

And seriously when is Azpilicueta signing! Thought the deal would have been done before the Community Shield. Oh well

Didnt say he was a direct replacement just said it would make sense.

David Silva and Balotelli not playing in the Community Shield as well. Manchester City are definitely a poorer side without Silva so I am feeling rather optimistic about this match. Hopefully we do well and start our long season on the right foot

Looking alot like Oscar will be returning to us with a silver medal unfortunately.

Mexico leading 2-0 in the 85th minute.

EDIT: FT 2-1 Mexico.

Lol. Oscar failed to score the equalizer in the end.

Should have buried it. However, him and Hulk were the only Brazilian players who played well in the finals. Marcelo had a bad game. Rafael was very poor. Neymar was non-existent. Damiao was hot and cold throughout the tournament.

Hulk was inconsistent when given a chance. He plays much better for Porto, but thats normal.

I expect Oscar to be at Villa Park tomorrow. Good times. Can't wait to see him in action wearing the Chelsea kit.

EDIT: Actually we wont see him at the stadium.
"Oscar now joins up with the senior Brazil squad for a midweek friendly, before reporting to Chelsea following international duty."
